Chaos Heir

Chapter 1226 Green

Chapter 1226 Green

"Come on, people," Carlos laughed. "Come on. Time is money, and we finally scored big!"

Carlos' crewmates didn't share his excitement as they climbed the metal ramp to board the cumbersome spaceship. Big jobs usually provided more money, but that increase was rarely reflected in their salaries. Only Carlos was bound to earn a significant bonus from that.

"Oh! Blue! Doctor White!" Carlos announced when two familiar hooded figures appeared in the distance, approaching the ship. "You are unusually late."

"Carlos," Doctor White called, her tone as cold as usual. "Are you trying to get in the way of our marital obligations?"

A chill ran down Carlos' spine, but he mustered his politest smile to address that terrifying woman. "I was jesting, Doctor White. I'm glad you could enjoy yourselves during this short break."

"What's with the happy mood, Boss?" Blue asked. "Did that stripper finally gave you her contact?"

"We have a job," Carlos coughed, peeking at the crewmates still climbing the metal ramp to check whether they had heard his loud pilot. "A good job for once. All the details are on the control desk."

"I'll get to it, Boss," Blue exclaimed.

"I actually have to thank you for this, Blue," Carlos revealed, joining the couple on the metal ramp and patting his pilot's shoulder. "The crew boasted about what you did against the B-Class danger zone. Word spread around, so."

Carlos wanted to continue, but a wave of pain suddenly spread from his hand, interrupting him. He was truly happy about that new job, so he had used more strength than necessary when patting Blue's shoulder, but his palm now hurt.

Somehow, Blue's shoulder seemed made of the firmest material in the universe. It didn't budge or bend, so all the force of the bump ended up going back to Carlos' hand.

That was rather shocking. Carlos was only a second-level warrior, but that was a lot in those illegal environments. He was no powerhouse but remained close to it, especially when it came to criminal crews. Yet, his mysterious pilot was completely unaffected.

"You should be careful, Boss," Blue warned. "Generations of Thilku Lords have trained my shoulders. I could bend metal with them."

Carlos sighed, shaking his head. Even if he asked directly, his pilot would only come up with another one of those stupid jokes, so he let go of the matter entirely.

The ship eventually set off, leaving Dark Rock Colony to venture into the depths of space. The trip to the rescue point promised to take a few days, but Carlos was too excited to spend that time outside the bridge.

Truth be told, that relatively high-tier job was extremely welcome news. The B-Class danger zone had forced Carlos to spend a lot of money in repairs, so he couldn't wait to recover from his losses. He only hit his quarters once during the whole trip, and his excitement skyrocketed when the rescue point appeared in sight.

The ship's scanners left a lot to be desired, but even they couldn't miss the big structure in the distance. A rectangular vessel that was almost as big as Carlos' vehicle hovered aimlessly in space, unable to adjust its course or fly. Its engines had failed a few days ago, creating the need for that rescue mission.

The stranded vessel clearly was a cargo ship, but the person in charge didn't share the nature of its goods. It had actually paid extra to keep it a secret, and Carlos knew better than to ask too many questions.

Luckily, the engine's failure didn't affect the rectangular ship's ability to connect to Carlos'. Blue could easily aboard it, connecting the two vehicle's main entrances to create a safe passage. The crew only had to salvage the cargo and fly back to Dark Rock Colony now.

"Alright, crew, look alive!" Carlos shouted in the ship's general channel once the connection was established. "I want every available hand to follow me into the other vehicle and help with the cargo! Hurry! Our employer is not a patient man!"

Usually, crewmates like the pilot or the Doctor wouldn't have to join those menial tasks. It was also safer to leave someone on the main ship. However, Carlos wanted to do a good impression on his first high-tier job, and more hands were bound to shorten it.

Luckily, despite the quirkiness, the hooded couple was quite dutiful. Blue and Doctor White joined the rest of the crew without uttering a single complaint, disembarking to help move the cargo.

A quite out-of-shape bald man in a black suit awaited the crew's arrival on the other ship. His face was grim and dark, and his blue eyes never bothered to go on the crew but only focused on the man in the lead.

"Are you Carlos?" The bald man asked, his tone resembling a snort.

"That's me, Mister Broze," Carlos confirmed. "I brought down every member of my crew to help yours move the goods."

"You were quite on time," Mister Broze commented. "Good. Follow me."

Carlos' crew had landed in a vast, empty black room, but Mister Broze quickly led them into a nearby corridor, and crossing it revealed an even vaster space.

The second room resembled a glorified corridor or a narrow hall. Its surfaces were black, and a team of ten workers wielding guns or rifles guarded it. Still, its most interesting detail consisted of multiple cylindrical containers near one of its walls.

The containers themselves were hardly eye-catching, but the figures trapped inside them revealed what Mister Broze had been unwilling to explain in the job description. Young women wearing torn rags on no clothes at all resided in those cylindrical cages, and most had clearly given up on hoping to escape.

Sex trafficking wasn't unusual inside the lawless zones. It was somewhat regulated but remained a dirty business. However, Mister Broze seemed to deal in proper kidnappings, and Carlos couldn't help but notice how some of those women weren't women at all. They were too young to classify as that.

"Does your ship have enough room for the cages, too?" Mister Broze asked, exchanging nods with the armed soldiers to start the mobilization. "They are almost as expensive as the goods inside."

Carlos couldn't provide an immediate answer. He had no problem plundering ships and structures that had met their end, but sex trafficking crossed his moral line. Truth be told, Carlos probably wouldn't have accepted the job if he knew what it implied.

Nevertheless, Carlos wasn't exactly a righteous man. Everyone was a criminal in those environments, and his refusal to help Mister Broze wouldn't change anything. The fat man would just hire another crew to rescue him and his goods.

'Ah, fuck,' Carlos cursed in his mind. 'This is dirty, dirty business, but we are already here.'

"If it can't," Mister Broze continued, noticing Carlos' hesitation. "I have other restraining methods, but one cage has to be salvaged no matter what."

Mister Broze nodded at one of his armed soldiers, and the man approached the only dark cylindrical container. He tinkered with the console next to it, and its black surface slid away, revealing the transparent glass behind.

That seemingly special cage had a far younger girl trapped inside. She couldn't have been older than ten, but that wasn't her most striking feature. Her skin was pale-green, and the same went for her long flowy hair.

"Is that a Nele?" Carlos gasped.

Carlos had heard Milia 222 was full of them, but Merth 290 had a far different population. That was his first time seeing a member of that legendary species, but a familiar cold voice suddenly reached his ears, distracting him from the sight.

"The honeymoon is over," Doctor White sighed, lowering her hood and removing her mask and shades.

Long white and red hair fell on Doctor White sides and back, reaching her waist. She even opened her eyes, revealing the white light they radiated. Her dark-blue screen created a beautiful contrast with that glow, but the cold aura around her ruined that otherwise impeccable beauty.

Carlos had to admit he didn't recognize Doctor White's species. She was clearly alien but had never seen anyone like her. However, that pondering was short lived since an earthquake took control of the hall and cracks opened on random spots of its black surfaces.
