Chapter 1330: Elder

Chapter 1330: Elder

Foreign anger, nostalgia, sadness, and happiness invaded Khan’s mind while Snow threw a wild fit on top of him. The big bird seemed inclined to vent about their separation all in one go, and Khan let it.

Of course, Snow was virtually unable to hurt Khan, so his loud laugh never stopped. The Aduns flapped its wings, raged with its claws, and thrust with its beak, submerging Khan in dark-grey snow in the process, but pain never arrived.

It took a while, but Snow eventually calmed down, digging out Khan’s face with its beak, pointing its three eyes at him. A broad smile had never abandoned Khan’s face, and sensing the annoyance inside that big, feathered head prompted an apology.

"I’m really sorry," Khan said, lifting his arms to reach for Snow’s neck to ruffle its feathers. "I would have taken you with me if I had the chance."

Snow let Khan ruffle its neck for a bit before abruptly lifting its head, diverting its feathered face and wearing a proud, insulted expression. The Aduns even unfolded its wings, setting off while submerging Khan in snow again.

The Aduns was playing hard to get, but a foreign weight suddenly landed on its back, clinging to its wings while hugging its neck. Snow blinked, twisting its head to look behind it, only to find that Khan was riding it.

"I missed this so much," Khan laughed, lying on that feathered bed, rubbing his head on it. "You have become more comfortable in these years."

That was mostly due to Snow’s greater size. The Aduns had grown in that decade, making its back far more welcoming than Khan recalled. Of course, nostalgia was playing a part there, but Khan didn’t dwell on the details.

Snow screeched in annoyance, folding its wings to dive down, adding a few spins to make the flight more reckless. The artificial environment inside the massive warehouse replicated Nitis’ snowy mountains. Still, its size was quite limited in comparison, so the Aduns soon had to perform a sudden stop to avoid crashing on the fake ground.

That obviously didn’t stop Snow’s reckless flight. He had unfolded its wings to stop itself before the snowy surface, but quickly flapped them to regain speed.

What followed was a seemingly endless sequence of sharp twists, turns, spins, dives, and dangerous mid-air acrobatics meant to scare Khan off. However, he only laughed, clinging to Snow’s back no matter what perilous maneuver it unleashed.

The foreign annoyance slowly waned, replaced by pristine happiness. Snow gradually accepted Khan’s genuine feelings, focusing on the crazy flight and the fact that its long-lost partner could keep up with it.

After a while, Snow approached the snowy floor, gracefully landing on it. The Aduns released a happy screech, making Khan sit up to pat its feathered back.

"Yes, yes," Khan confirmed. "You have become even faster."

Snow’s three eyes lit up, ready for that opportunity. The Aduns twisted its body, rolling over the snowy ground before straightening itself again. It turned its proud head toward its back, ready to witness its masterpiece, only to find Khan hovering on his own a few meters at its side.

"Alright, but just because it’s you," Khan chuckled, letting himself fall to the ground and rolling there on his own, covering himself in dark-grey snow.

Snow tilted its head left and right, not understanding how Khan could fly on his own. However, seeing him sitting up while covered in snow made it lift its beak in pride, claiming ownership over that accomplishment.

Khan laughed again, crawling forward to approach the Aduns. Snow understood his intentions, so it squatted down, letting him lie his back on its folded wing.

"[I knew you were catching up with me too easily]," Khan announced, rubbing the feathers behind him, switching language and target for his words. "[So, this is how you did it]."

The reunion with Snow had kept Khan busy, but he had sensed the other presence in the artificial environment even before stepping inside it. Khan and Snow weren’t alone there, and a red glow eventually joined them, revealing a figure he was familiar with.

An old Niqols with a head full of long red hair and red eyes appeared from behind one of the artificial mountain peaks, floating on her own toward Khan and Snow. Her wrinkled face and slender body tried to make her look weak, but Khan could finally sense how strong she was.

"[Great-grandmother-in-law]," Khan called, remaining on the snow but straightening his back to perform a Niqols’ bow. "[We meet again]."

The Niqols floating down the mountain was none other than the Elder Khan and Liiza had met after Yeza’s death. She was the first evolved warrior Khan had ever encountered, as well as Liiza’s Great-grandmother.

Of course, that reunion was far more shocking for the old Niqols. She had met Khan little over ten years ago, but he had been nothing more than a first-level warrior back then.

Instead, the young man casually bowing at the Elder while the Aduns poked his head with its beak was worthy of being her equal now.

Actually, the old Niqols knew exactly how a confrontation between her and Khan would go. Battles in the evolved realm abided by various factors, but the Elder had no doubts in her mind. She was so outclassed that she felt Khan belonged to a different level altogether.

"[Oh, I should share the happy news]," Khan continued while the Elder was still busy inspecting him. "[Liiza just gave birth to our daughter, and we decided to name her Yeza. You are a Great-great-grandmother now, Elder]."

The Elder finally landed on the dark-grey snow, taking a couple of steps forward to stop a few meters from Khan and his Aduns. He broke his bow at that point, straightening his back to point his slightly chilling smile at her.

"[And yes]," Khan added. "[You wouldn’t last a single exchange against me]."

The sudden declaration took the Elder aback, but a sigh escaped her mouth, replacing her aloof expression with a warm smile.

"[You have grown strong, Khan]," The Elder announced, using a motherly tone. "[To think that the human boy from back then would become my great-granddaughter’s husband. Your feelings were more intense than I predicted]."

"[Yes, I never really got over Liiza]," Khan revealed. "[I’m sorry for causing such a mess, but I don’t regret what I did]."

"[I can see that]," The Elder said, pointing her red eyes at the tattoos on Khan’s right arm. "[As a Niqols, I must respect your union and be happy for it]."

"[And as an Elder]?" Khan asked.

"[As an Elder]," Liiza’s Great-grandmother repeated, "[I must confirm whether you have what it takes to lead us]."
