FIRST IMMORTAL OF THE SWORD
Chapter 1940: Disaster and Good Fortune Go Hand-in-HandChapter 1940: Disaster and Good Fortune Go Hand-in-Hand
When he received word that Su Yi had plunged the Spirit Domain into chaos, Jiang Tai’e ripped the message to shreds.
Nan Pingtian sprawled out on the ground, his eyes vacant.
The Blood Firmament Immortal Sovereign twisted his beard so hard that the hairs snapped. His face was hideously contorted.
Chu Shentong flew off the handle, pointed at the heavens and cursed.
They were hidden in different places across the Immortal Realm, but all of them lost their cool. This development caught them completely off guard. They felt utterly, deeply helpless and frustrated.
……
“That guy sure is a freak,” sighed Feng Wuji.
He’d experienced Su Yi’s strength firsthand, and he knew the Heretic Reincarnator’s strength was far beyond the bounds of the Great Realm!
Beneath the god level, perhaps only Heaven’s Chosen could compete!
……The Academy of Eternal Night.
“I said it, didn’t I? I knew Master’s intervention would be enough to quell the world’s unrest!” Lin Feng said with a laugh.
“Now I’m curious. Just how strong has Fellow Daoist Su’s cultivation base become?” murmured the Sword-Bearing Ape, his heart full of longing.
“I don’t care about any of that. I’m happy so long as the Sovereign Venerate is safe and sound,” said the Red Dragon Dao Monarch with a radiant smile.
Everyone in the academy was in uproar, their laughter and smiles neverending.
……
“He turned the tides yet again. He completely quelled the Immortal Realm’s flames of war!”
Within the Place Abandoned by Heaven, Xi Ning’s eyes sparkled when she heard the news. “I knew something like this would happen. I just didn’t expect he’d take the battle to the Spirit Domain.”
Luo Tiandu stood to the side in silence. He wasn’t at all pleased. He’d lost track of how many times Su Yi had shocked him since they’d met. By now, he couldn’t help but wonder if he should really continue stubbornly opposing Su Yi.
Suddenly, Xi Ning asked, “Are you planning to give up?”
Luo Tiandu was briefly stunned, but then, he shook his head. “No. If I give up, I’ll destroy my Dao Heart, and… I’ll look down on myself.”
He took a deep breath, his eyes shining with determination. “No matter what, when I next see him, I’ll attack without hesitation.”
Unusually, Xi Ning looked a bit gratified. “You’ve got guts.”
Luo Tiandu was surprised—and delighted. “It’s extremely unusual for you to compliment me like this, A’Ning.”
“It’s one thing to have guts, and another to get beaten to a pulp,” said Xi Ning. “I’m not worried about Fellow Daoist Su’s safety, and I’m not worried that he’ll kill you, either. Actually, I think getting walloped might do you good. At the very least, you’d learn your limits.”
“….”
……
“Hurry! Faster!”
A group of Demon Sovereigns raced across the Bloodthirsty Plains with all their might. They were in such a hurry to return to the Spirit Domain that they’d left the rest of the demon hordes far behind.
Along the way, the Demon Sovereigns were completely frantic, and their expressions were ashen and unsightly.
They all knew what had happened in the Spirit Domain, but even now, they struggled to believe it was real.
The Tyrant was just one person!
How could he have broken Celestial Wolf Gate and reached the Ancestral Demon Grounds so easily?
“I just hope the worst hasn’t happened yet,” someone said bitterly.
When the Demon Sovereigns led an army of a million demons to the Immortal Realm, they never even considered the possibility that Su Yi would seize the opportunity to launch a one-man invasion!
The reports said that over one hundred Demon Sovereigns of the Nine Great Demon Races had died at Nightslayer Ridge.
And that dozens of their oldest and mightiest experts had perished outside the Ancestral Demon Grounds!
This blow was far too heavy. It left them on the verge of breaking down completely.
“Forgive me for saying this, but even if we get there in time, we’ll be no match for the Tyrant,” someone said with a deep, dejected sigh.
This was exactly what the other Demon Sovereigns were most worried about. It was true. The Ancestral Demon Grounds had fallen, and their mightiest, most ancient experts had been killed. How could the likes of them possibly fight the Tyrant?
“Ah, but we’re not going back to fight him,” someone said bleakly. “Our goal is simply to protect our remaining clansmen. If we do, we might well one day rise again. But if he rips us up by the roots, well, we’ll be completely finished!”
The others looked pained, but they nodded nonetheless.
Two days later, they arrived at Endless Flames Gate, one of the Spirit Domain’s thirteen garrisons.
“We’ve finally returned,” someone sighed in relief. “Let’s go!”
Without any delays, the group took the skies and activated a secret technique to open the garrison’s barrier. Then, they charged on through.
Boom!
A swath of dazzling, blood-colored lightning came crashing toward them. That terrifying destructive power sent the ten-plus Demon Sovereigns scattering in all four directions.
They looked as wretched as could be, and several of them were injured!
When they looked up, they saw a deathly pale, sallow old man in long, blood-red robes on the garrison walls. He gripped a bloody lightning spear.
“Progenitor!? What are you doing here?” cried out a Demon Sovereign of the Thunderblood Demons.
They had a portrait of their progenitor, Xue Ting, in their ancestral worship hall. It looked just like this old man!
“That’s the progenitor of the Thunderblood Demons?” The other Demon Sovereigns exclaimed. A thought rose unbidden to their minds——Something big must have changed in the Ancestral Demon Grounds! But why would the Thunderblood Progenitor attack us?
Before they could wrap their heads around it, the Thunderblood Progenitor attacked once more, giving the Demon Sovereigns no opportunity to ask questions. Bloody lightning came crashing down.
That terrifying power stimulated the power of divine misfortune overhead, but the barrier over Endless Flames Gate quickly blocked it.
Boom!
The sky exploded and split.
Seven Demon Sovereigns were blasted to bits, their bodies and souls annihilated amidst blood-red lightning.
The others panicked. What on earth is going on? Don’t tell me that someone is controlling the Thunderblood Progenitor?
But before they could wrap their heads around it, the Thunderblood Progenitor attacked once more.
After being refined into a Divine Puppet, the Thunderblood Progenitor was like a demigod. He was far beyond the world’s Demon Sovereigns. When he struck with all his might, he completely suppressed his opponents!
Within just a few blinks of an eye, thirty-seven Demon Sovereigns died on the spot!
The Divine Puppet’s power was so great that none could escape. All of them perished. Even in death, they didn’t understand why the Thunderblood Progenitor would attack them.
Similar scenes took place in other sections of the Spirit Domain’s borders.
Over one hundred Demon Sovereigns had worked together to lead the army of one million demons against the Immortal Realm.
When they returned, they proceeded toward different border forts, only for the Divine Puppets to kill them without mercy.
It was a ridiculous sight, as it was their own progenitors who struck the killing blow! The reality was just that absurd, and that cruel.
Several more days passed before the rest of the invading army reached the Spirit Domain’s borders.
Without exception, they too were slaughtered by the nine Divine Puppets. The borders of the Spirit Domain were now piled high with corpses.
But a few Demon Sovereigns and ordinary demon warriors were fortunate enough to avoid destruction. The Spirit Domain had thirteen border forts, but there were only nine Divine Puppets. The lucky survivors were those who happened to enter through the remaining four garrisons.
But only around a dozen of the hundred Demon Sovereigns and around sixty thousand ordinary demon warriors made it back alive. It was obvious how grievous their casualties were.
The nine Divine Puppets had completed their task, but they remained at the border. They’d been ordered to kill anyone who tried to cross it, and they wouldn’t leave unless they received new orders.
Word of what happened at the borders soon reached the Spirit Domain, causing yet another enormous uproar.
“Over one hundred of the Demon Sovereigns left for the Immortal Realm, but only thirteen made it back alive?”
“Just sixty thousand of the million demon warriors accompanying them made it back?”
“How is this possible? How could this have happened?”
“Are the heavens out to destroy us all?”
Clouds of despair hung over the Spirit Domain. The disaster Su Yi had brought them was absolutely unprecedented.
The Ancestral Demon Grounds had fallen! The Nine Great Demon Races, the hegemons of the Spirit Domain, had practically all been wiped out! Almost all of their Demon Sovereigns were dead!
The army of one million demons had collapsed, taking utterly enormous casualties!
They even suspected that the Nine Progenitors had somehow fallen under Su Yi’s control. They were obeying his every command!
These developments didn’t just shatter the Spirit Domain’s pre-existing order. They overturned its leadership completely, and the world descended into unprecedented turmoil.
It was obvious to everyone that massive changes were in store!
……
The Ancestral Demon Grounds.
The storm raging in the outside world didn’t affect Su Yi. He was focused on his cultivation, entirely unaware of the outside world.
As days slipped by, the source power within the Chaos Pool was rapidly depleted, while Su Yi’s aura grew stronger with each passing day!
A month later, the pool’s source power had dried up completely. Su Yi had been seated in meditation this entire time, but now, he slowly opened his eyes.
Boom!
A tide of chaos mist vanished into his body, like a whale swallowing the ocean. Even his rumbling vital energy returned to stillness.
From the outside, it didn’t seem like he’d changed, but Su Yi knew that after this past month’s cultivation, he’d refined the entirety of the pool’s chaos source power and tempered his foundations to perfection within the Great Unity Stage!
Although he’d yet to break through, he’d made rapid progress.
“Fortune and disaster go hand in hand. I benefited enormously from this trip to the Spirit Domain. My strength has increased by at least thirty percent!
“All I need to do now is temper my Laws of the Grand Dao to perfection too. Then I can start planning my breakthrough into the Great Profound Stage.
As he pondered, Su Yi rose. “It’s time to see what’s happening in the outside world.”
