Chapter 2155 – Ill Tidings

A Nine Apertures Sword Meridian!

This was an incomparably shocking innate talent. You could even call it unparalleled.

Su Yi’s fourth incarnation, Yi Daoxuan, had been born with a Nine Apertures Sword Meridian. Now, that same talent had appeared on A’Ling. How could Su Yi not be surprised?

He didn’t even need to think to know that A’Ling was most likely one of Yi Daoxuan’s descendants!

Su Yi found the idea rather strange. His other past lives, Su Xuanjun, the Temple Master, Shen Mu, Wang Ye, and Li Fuyou had never married or had children.

Yi Daoxuan was the exception. He hadn’t just married and had children. He had so many descendants that over time, they gathered together to form a clan.

There was no doubt about it. If A’Ling’s talent really was a Nine Apertures Sword Meridian, she had to be one of Yi Daoxuan’s descendants.

No wonder she felt a strange resonance that led her right to me in the Demon Crow Mountains, even though I was unconscious… thought Su Yi. The Billowing Blue Realm’s Demon Crow Mountains are most likely a hidden refuge Yi Daoxuan prepared for his descendants!

Everything suddenly seemed to make sense.

When Yi Daoxuan died, he was unwilling and unable to let go for many reasons, but he was undoubtedly most concerned about the family he’d leave behind.

Thus, when Su Yi came to the God Domain, the power of Yi Daoxuan’s Dao Imprint sent him directly to the Billowing Blue Realm!

Since Li Changqing knows the Little Star Soul Art, he’s got to have some sort of tightly knit relationship with Yi Daoxuan’s clan, too, thought Su Yi. But it’s strange. He and A’Ling are just too weak. They don’t seem at all like the descendants of a peak Nine-Tribulation Master God…

Su Yi shook his head. There was no need to wonder about all that when he could just find Li Changqing and ask him. He might well be able to get some answers then.

That aside, once he recovered his cultivation base, he’d be able to find some answers in Yi Daoxuan’s memories, too.

Meanwhile, A’Ling shot over from beneath the dome of heaven.

She’d successfully broken through and stepped into the Profound Dao, becoming a Profound Illumination Empress!

“Thank you so much, Big Brother Xiao!” A’Ling said excitedly. Her whole face was alight with undisguisable joy.

Su Yi chuckled. “A trivial matter, that’s all. No need to thank me. You should take this time to meditate and stabilize your foundations. We’ve got to return to the village by daybreak.”

A’Ling obediently nodded her head.

Su Yi had completely won her over. By now, no matter what Su Yi said, she’d do exactly as he told her.

Just as I thought. She might have broken through, but she hasn’t fully awakened her innate talent yet, thought Su Yi.

He could sense that the aura of the Nine Apertures Sword Meridian had gone back into hiding. That was a sign that they’d yet to fully awaken.

As daybreak fast approached, that towering streak of sword qi gradually turned indistinct. It seemed it might vanish at any moment.

“A’Ling, activate the Edict of Profound Gathering I taught you with all your might,” ordered Su Yi.

“Got it!” A’Ling took out a talisman carved with the Edict of Profound Gathering and poured her strength into it.

Whoosh!

A mysterious, inscrutable Edict rose into the air.

An unbelievable scene followed. The distant pillar of blood-red sword qi suddenly quivered. Immediately afterward, three streaks of blood-red sword light whooshed over and shot into the talisman.

The talisman turned blood-red, and it now emanated a shocking destructive aura.

“That’s enough.” Su Yi hurriedly stopped her.

If she gathered any more, A’Ling might be able to take it, but the talisman wouldn’t. It would explode if it absorbed too much of the blood-red sword qi’s power.

A’Ling promptly put the talisman away and exclaimed, “Big Brother Xiao, it’s actually possible to gather that blood-red sword qi?”

Su Yi laughed. “Other people can’t, but you and I can.”

A’Ling nodded and asked no questions. Perhaps because there was just too much about Su Yi that was mysterious, she’d learned to suppress her curiosity.

Su Yi, however, felt a complicated mix of emotions.

He’d never married or had children, yet now he knew that A’Ling was most likely a descendant of one of his past lives…

It was a strange feeling, and he didn’t know how to describe it.

……

Su Yi and A’Ling returned to the village before the sun rose, and they managed to avoid alerting anyone.

Su Yi hadn’t slept all night, so he planned to go directly to sleep. He was already crippled and unable to cultivate, so he figured he might as well… just enjoy this rare moment of tranquility.

“Remember to use the secret method I taught you to store the treasures,” said Su Yi before dozing off.

A’Ling gazed intently at his sleeping form in silence for a long time before quietly leaving the room.

Once the sun rose, several streaks of light shot toward the Demon Crow Mountains from all sides.

These were the experts of the area’s various prominent factions. Practically all of them were yao and demon cultivators!

Since Grassy Creek Village was at the foot of the mountains, this scene alerted all of the villagers.

They weren’t overly panicked. Over the years, every time something like this happened in the mountains, it would draw in experts of numerous cultivation factions.

Thus, they’d long since grown accustomed to such things.

“Listen up, human scum!”

Suddenly, a treasure ship covered in flowing, colorful lights appeared above Grassy Creek Village.

A silver-robed man yelled from on board. “We’re from the Sky Fire Yao Sect, and we’re acting on His Excellency Immortal Spirit Pheasant’s orders. We’re going to search for treasure in the Demon Crow Mountains!

“All of you are to gather up immediately and follow us into the mountains!”

Grassy Creek Village was instantly in uproar.

The Sky Fire Yao Sect!

They were one of the three top factions of the Yao Path in Fire Cauldron City, and they had numerous yao immortals in residence to oversee things.

They might have been an ordinary faction by the standards of the Billowing Blue Realm as a whole, but to the people of Grassy Creek Village, they were an enormous entity they could only look up to!

More importantly, the villagers all remembered what had happened just last year, when Immortal Spirit Pheasant had killed a child while scouring the village for treasure!

All eyes were instantly on Elder Li Changqing.

Li Changqing said solemnly, “Cooperate, everyone. Follow their excellencies of the Sky Fire Yao Sect into the mountains!”

The silver-robed man on board the treasure ship nodded in satisfaction. “At least you human scum know your place!”

A’Ling stood amidst the crowd. She was inwardly furious.

The silver-robed man was obviously human, just like them, yet he was willingly serving a faction of yao cultivators. Worse, every time he opened his mouth, he called them “human scum.” He was truly detestable!

But A’Ling didn’t dare to say anything. That was just how the world was. In the Billowing Blue Realm, yao cultivators’ dogs had far higher positions than humans!

It was thus obvious just how lowly human cultivators were in the Billowing Blue Realm.

Before long, all of the villagers had been conscripted, and they set off for the mountains with the cultivators of the Sky Fire Yao Sect.

Similar scenes took place at the other villages at the foot of the Demon Crow Mountains. The experts of the various prominent factions needed locals familiar with the mountains to guide them. The villagers, who’d lived in these lands for generations, were naturally the perfect people for the job.

That aside, they could use the villagers as manual laborers and send them to gather treasures on their behalf.

None of them dared to resist, either. Any resistance could well cost them their lives.

In the Billowing Blue Realm, human lives were like lowly blades of grass. Everyone knew that. No matter how strong a human cultivator was, in the eyes of yao cultivators, they had no status or dignity to speak of.

Su Yi was dozing when he sensed the commotion in the village. He couldn’t help but frown.

But he quickly… fell back asleep.

Hours later, A’Ling’s frantic, indignant voice roused him from his slumber once more.

“Big Brother Xiao, wake up! Wake up!”

When Su Yi opened his eyes, he discovered that it was already dusk, and the skies burned like fire. He could see A’Ling’s agitated, grief-stricken face clearly through the window lattice.

He frowned. “What happened?

“Big Brother Xiao, come with me first. I’ll tell you along the way,” said A’Ling. She flipped her hand, and a wooden wheelchair appeared. There was a soft pelt on the seat.

The young woman placed Su Yi into the wheelchair, then hurriedly pushed him out of the courtyard and toward the blood-red light of dusk. She was headed to Li Changqing’s house.

Along the way, Su Yi finally learned just what she was so upset about.

All of the villagers had been forced to accompany the experts of the Sky Fire Yao Sect into the mountains to gather treasures. Everything had gone smoothly.

But then, on their way back, Village Headman Xue Tianyun inadvertently contradicted an expert of the Sky Fire Yao Sect. It was just one sentence, but the yao cultivator killed him on the spot!!

That’s right. Just one sentence out of turn had cost Xue Tianyun his life!

Everyone in Grassy Creek Village was incomparably furious.

They’d worked like horses and oxen all day, running to and fro on the Sky Fire Yao Sect’s behalf to gather beast corpses and spiritual medicines.

It was bad enough that they didn’t reap any of the rewards. Now, a single sentence had gotten their leader killed. Of course they were furious!

“All Uncle Xue said was that it was getting late, and that he wanted to bring the villagers back as soon as possible, ideally before dark. In the end, Chu Shi, one of the Sky Fire Yao Sect experts, crushed his skull and cursed Uncle Xue for not knowing his place. He said his death was unworthy of pity.”

The rims of A’Ling’s eyes were red with anger and grief.

Xue Tianyun’s face appeared in Su Yi’s sea of consciousness. He got the impression that despite the village headman’s stern disposition, he was kind, sincere, and well-respected.

Who’d have thought that a trip to the Demon Crow Mountains would cost him his life…?

“At the time, you…” Su Yi was just about to say something when he thought better of it.

He’d remembered that A’Ling was, ultimately, a young woman of little experience. She’d lived her entire life in a remote village. It was only natural that she’d panic in a situation like that. There was no way she could fight back.

Especially not when it happened so quickly. She most likely simply hadn’t had time to do anything.

“Don’t be sad. Leave the rest to me. All you have to do is follow my orders,” Su Yi said gently. His voice contained a comforting force.

According to A’Ling, the experts of the Sky Fire Yao Sect hadn’t left. Instead, they’d stationed themselves near Elder Li Changqing’s residence.

“Mm, Big Brother Xiao, I’ll do what you say.”

A’Ling took a deep breath, then forced herself to be calm. However, her eyes were still bloodshot, and it was obvious how great her grief was.

Su Yi’s heart ached. “I promise that those bastards won’t be able to bear the punishment for what they’ve done!”
