Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1195 : Miscalculation (1)

When Kyran decided on the groupings of his Servants and Sigils, he initially wanted to group them according to how he turned them. Ultimately, he decided against it because having a Servant and a Sigil in one group would give them more room to adapt to situations. However, he did have reservations about assigning a Sigil as a leader. It was not that he did not trust them.

Instead, he felt this overwhelming sense of their willingness to give up their lives for him.

Kyran could not put it into words, but it was similar to how Zephyr became too attached to him. Come to think of it, Baron, his first Sigil, showed the same attitude. He just did not have the opportunity to 'offer' his life for Kyran.

Kyran heard from Myst that Ames's Sigil worked differently from his. The effect might have been different because they had dragon blood in their veins, but Kyran could not shake the feeling that there was another reason behind it.

This realization became more pronounced as he delved deeper into the potential evolution of his Draconic magic to Chaos magic.

The Sigils' loyalty to Kyran was slightly contradicting his initial understanding. This was because they could think for themselves better than his Servants, who were reborn from the Void. They were only restricted by their connection to Kyran, meaning they would suffer if they ever thought of betraying him.

Maybe because he shared some of his thoughts with them and vice versa after establishing their connection, they all ended up vowing their undying loyalty to him.

After Kyran finished his business with his Sigils and Servants, he met with Aron, Cade, and Euan and discussed the Blade Dancer Clan. They talked about what they needed to do to ensure the plane where the clan were building their new stronghold would develop as soon as possible and how they would integrate into the Regis Family's military.

By the end of their meeting, it was decided that Cade and Euan would go and oversee the Blade Dancer Clan's activities.

Kyran gave them an improved face-altering mask and a new set of coats to hide their identity. He also asked them to think of new names, emphasizing that using their real names could pose a threat to them. The Blade Dancer Clan might not do anything to them, but they would be in trouble if their real names were leaked outside.

Cade and Euan were already aware of this and prepared different names for themselves. In fact, it was also the reason they avoided calling Kyran by his name in front of others.

Finally, the time for Kyran to leave the plane arrived. Initially, he planned to go alone, but Cyneah was against it and said she wanted to go with him this time. Strangely, his mother and godmother were not against the idea.

With Aillos already in closed-door training, there was no one else to make them see sense. Thus, Kyran could only agree. Ames was also not against Cyneah going with Kyran, pointing out that if she went with him, he would not act as reckless.

She also pointed out that even if her father were not in closed-door training, he would not be opposed to the idea as well, especially now that Cyneah had the protection of the Ancestral Steele.

In the end, Kyran relented, and he and Cyneah, with Alta as her official guardian, left the plane through the portal.

Their first stop was the Ogen Clan, where Oceanus would assist them in entering Estrid's plane.

Kyran disguised himself so he would not stand out like he did on his first time in Ogen. With his improved face-altering mask, even an entry Overlord would have difficulty detecting his disguise. It was still a long way to avoid the eyes of a mid-Overlord, but it was not like he would be in front of one all the time.

Thus far, the mid-Overlord he knew was Oceanus. As for Estrid, officially, it was said that she was only a peak High Sovereign, but knowing she belonged to Aillos and Oceanus's generation, it was not wrong to assume that she was also an Overlord.

Kyran did not know whether Estrid was an entry Overlord or a mid-one, but he was not keen on finding that out. It would be best if he did not have to meet her when selling his rare items. However, since some of his items had something to do with Alchemy, which Estrid was famous for, he doubted she would not be interested in meeting him in person.

Considering this, Kyran would have to be careful when using or removing his disguise in her territory.

Alta and Cyneah were also in disguise. However, unlike him, only their faces were changed. Their clothes were also enchanted to give them additional protection and modify the attributes of their magic energy.

Kyran did not use any concealment on them because he realized it would make them stand out more. The mages in the Higher Realm were wiser, with most having their Divine Sense active all the time. If a mage with a concealment spell active were to walk around in the middle of a street, regardless if it was crowded or not, they would become suspicious.

Kyran also added a new array to his coat, allowing him to emit enough presence that would blend with the beings around him. This meant his presence and magic energy would adjust depending on the primary magic energy of the plane he was in.

The array on Alta and Cyneah's clothes could be said to do the same when it modifies the attributes of their magic energy. The only difference was that Kyran's array created his presence and magic energy from scratch, while Alta and Cyneah's array simply modified theirs.

Kyran and his group were escorted to the ship Oceanus prepared for their journey. Its outer design was different from the one they used to go to the Junction Port, but the inside was pretty much the same.

"You understand that you've been working us to the bones with all your requests, don't you?" Oceanus said as soon as Kyran and his group entered the ship's command room.

There were only two other people with Oceanus, and both were someone Kyran was already familiar with— Leif and Mira.

"I remember compensating your work with high-quality potions and pills. Oh, and Array items."

"While I appreciate all these, don't you think it would be better just to give us the recipe for those items?"

"Even if I give you the recipe, it does not guarantee a high-quality potion on its concoction," Kyran explained. "It is all about the skills."

"...Do you hear how arrogant you sound right now?"

"..."

Meanwhile, Leif eyed Alta with narrowed eyes. She, her father and Mira had already been told that Kyran was accompanied by two female mages. While Leif already guessed that one of them was Cyneah, she was having trouble guessing Alta's identity.

As if sensing Leif's doubt, Oceanus directed his attention to Alta and Cyneah.

He first addressed Cyneah with a wry smile, "I see... so you are the reason Null rejected my daughter."

Leif grew bright red and nearly had a heart attack because of how her father phrased that.

"W-What are you saying in front of Lady Sisi, father? Do you have to phrase it like I confessed to Null when you are the one who offered the marriage proposal without my knowledge?"

"Marriage proposal?" Cyneah muttered, turning her head slightly toward Kyran. She could not see his expression, but she sensed him tensed somewhat. "Why am I hearing this only now?"

"..."

"Ahahaha," Oceanus laughed and said, "Don't worry— Lady Sisi, is it? Null had rejected my daughter. Though the memory still makes me want to choke him to death, I think I understand now why he strongly disagreed with my proposal."

"D-Do you have to say strongly... you're embarrassing me, father..."

"I am only teasing," Oceanus replied with a faint smile. Then he suddenly turned his attention to Alta, and his eyes narrowed dangerously, "So... I understand that we have established a good connection with the Blade Dancer Clan, but what is she doing here?"

Surprised at the sudden change in her father's demeanour, Leif looked at Oceanus, "Father?"

Mira was similarly surprised as she looked at her Lord before looking at Alta.

"Please don't take offence if I brought her without prior notice."

The one who responded to Oceanus' question was Kyran. It was not because Alta could not speak for herself. Instead, Kyran had already warned her of the possibility that Oceanus would not appreciate her presence and said that he would explain everything himself.

"The business I have to deal with at present will require me to move alone, and I can't leave my wife by herself. At the moment, she—" Kyran looked at Alta, "—is the only one I can entrust my wife with while I'm gone."

"Wait, what?"

"You don't have to worry, I can vouch for her—"

"Did you just say w-wife? When did it happen?"

"..."

Kyran had a deadpan expression as he looked at Oceanus. "Are we still on the same page here?"

"I think not," Leif replied with the same deadpan expression.

"No, wait, when did this happen?" Oceanus insisted, looking at Kyran and then at Cyneah. "You... You're not just calling her wife as an endearment or something, are you? Now that I have a better sense of her presence, there is a special kind of protection around her."

"I'd like for us to leave as soon as possible," Kyran ignored Oceanus's rambling about how it had only been a couple or so months since Kyran went to the Junction Port, so how come he was already married and veered their discussion on track. "I understand that Lady Mira would accompany us on this trip?"

"I'm going as well," Leif explained and smiled slightly. "Mira will operate the ship, and as for me, I will be your group's guide.
