Chapter 6314: First Lesson: Be Unscrupulous
Long Xiaoxiao and Long Zhuoyan watched as Chu Feng left.
“Xiaoxiao, you’ll have to work hard,” Long Zhuoyan suddenly remarked.
“Master, I’ll work hard on my cultivation so as to not let you down,” Long Xiaoxiao promised.
But Long Zhuoyan wasn’t satisfied with that answer. “I don’t just mean working hard in a conventional manner. It’s not about meeting my expectations. You have to work far harder on top of that. Do you know why?”
“I was born humble. It is my blessing to have you as my master, and I mustn’t let you down,” Long Xiaoxiao said.
“What nonsense are you spouting?” Long Zhuoyan shook her head. “I know you’re fond of my little brother.”
“Master, I...” Long Xiaoxiao’s face turned red.
Due to Long Zhuoyan’s presence, she had held herself back from embracing Chu Feng even though she really wanted to do it. Yet, the other party still saw through her. She wondered if her feelings for Chu Feng were that obvious.
Long Zhuoyan burst into laughter. “That further confirms it. Your face wouldn’t turn red otherwise.”
“Master, you...” Long Xiaoxiao’s face further reddened. It turned out that Long Zhuoyan was sounding her out.
Long Zhuoyan wrapped her arm around Long Xiaoxiao’s shoulder as if getting intimate with a fellow sister. Her hearty attitude was unlike how masters usually treated their disciples.
But Long Xiaoxiao preferred this. She had seen how Long Zhuoyan interacted with Chu Feng, and she would be delighted if she could bare her heart to Long Zhuoyan and talk about anything under the sun too.
But what Long Zhuoyan said next cooled Long Xiaoxiao’s heart.
“It’s normal for you to be fond of my little brother. My little brother is very outstanding. I’d have been moved too if not for our massive age difference. But Xiaoxiao, you have to understand a fact. It’s normal for people to fancy good things. What you find great, others can find it great too. You shouldn’t take your closeness with him for granted. If you want to be with him, you have to become worthy of him.
“Feelings are important in a relationship, but for the relationship to last long, you will have to be on the same footing as him. Even parents would favor a child over the other, let alone someone whom you don’t have blood ties with. You’ll have to work very hard to get what you want.”
Long Xiaoxiao nodded. “I understand, master, but I don’t ask for Chu Feng to fancy me. I just hope to be able to do something for him when he’s in need of help. He has helped me a lot, and I wish to do the same for him too.”
The corners of Long Zhuoyan’s lips further crept upward into an enigmatic smile.
“Xiaoxiao, I don’t doubt your words, but that only shows your lack of self-confidence. Would you turn down my little brother if he says he wants to be with you?” Long Zhuoyan asked.
Long Xiaoxiao fell silent, and Long Zhuoyan didn’t urge her for an answer either. She saw through Long Xiaoxiao—the latter felt a sense of inferiority when it came to Chu Feng, which was why she dared not dream of even being with him.
Long Zhuoyan was trying to make her aware of her feelings so that she could have a clearer goal in mind.
A long time later, Long Xiaoxiao meekly answered, “I want to be with him.”
“I can’t hear you,” Long Zhuoyan said.
Long Xiaoxiao was stunned, but she tightened her fists and spoke even louder, “I want to be with him! I want to stand beside Chu Feng instead of being a baggage to him!”
Long Xiaoxiao shouted her wish as she looked at the direction where Chu Feng left. Her eyes reflected determination like never before. Her eyes were now set on a new goal.
Long Zhuoyan patted Long Xiaoxiao’s head with a satisfied smile. “That’s more like it. My disciple shouldn’t be so timid as to dare not even court the man she likes. But Xiaoxiao, the road to becoming strong is fraught with dangers. I’m bringing you down a path unlike how you have lived before. This shall be your first lesson.”
Long Zhuoyan grinned at Long Xiaoxiao.
“Please enlighten me, master.” Long Xiaoxiao stood upright as she looked at her master with a serious expression.
Long Zhuoyan suddenly opened her palm, revealing a pill emanating a red aura.
Goosebumps covered Long Xiaoxiao’s body as she suddenly felt terror like never before.
The pill was the size of a fingernail, but upon closer examination, she could tell that it was made up of countless bloodied skeletons who seemed to have lives of their own. She could even hear their miserable cries.
Long Xiaoxiao opened her mouth in fright as she instinctively took a step back.
However, Long Zhuoyan stuffed the red pill into her mouth before sending waves of spirit power over to hasten the diffusion of the pill, till the pill was fully fused with Long Xiaoxiao’s soul.
“Xiaoxiao, this is a gu poison. You’ll suffer a fate worse than death if you ever think about rebelling against me. Don’t blame me for this. I have suffered so many setbacks in the world of cultivation that I must have everything under my control.
“This is my first lesson. Scruples should be the least of your concern if you wish to rise through the ranks in the world of cultivation,” Long Zhuoyan said before releasing Long Xiaoxiao.
Long Xiaoxiao fell to her knees.
Long Zhuoyan frowned, thinking that Long Xiaoxaio was going to beg for mercy.
However, Long Xiaoxiao first kowtowed to her before raising her head. Her fear had yet to dissipate, but her eyes were more determined than ever.
“Master, I’ll never betray you. May this gu poison torture me to death if I ever think about rebelling against you.”
Long Zhuoyan was surprised to hear that. “You don’t blame me for what I did?”
“No. It’s an honor for someone from a humble background like me to become master’s disciple. I understand why master is guarded against me, but you’ll know what kind of person I am over time and come to trust me. I don’t fear the gu poison because I know that I will not rebel against master,” Long Xiaoxiao replied.
Long Zhuoyan was startled. “Good. As expected of someone my little brother trusts. There is something special about you. You are qualified to be my disciple. Come, I’ll show you the true world of cultivation.”
She waved her sleeves, and another teleportation passageway appeared. She grabbed Long Xiaoxiao’s hand and led her in.
This teleportation passageway led to the Ninth Galaxy.
