Chapter 5942 Fake Gentleman
“A nine star heir!”
Startled cries echoed through the crowd. That name was a taboo, one that struck fear into the hearts of many.
Some claimed that nine star heirs were the mightiest warriors of the nine heavens and ten lands. Others believed they were devils destined to overthrow the world. Some saw them as protectors of all life, while others feared they were destroyers of all creation.
Nine star heirs inherited the will of the Nine Star Master—a legendary figure of the human race who had perished in the primal chaos war. Some said that it was he who had sparked the war, nearly bringing the nine heavens to ruin.
Thus, the heirs to his will were seen as cursed seeds. If allowed to grow, they would bring about the calamity of the nine heavens and ten lands once more.
But no matter how they viewed nine star heirs—heroic or heretical—one truth remained: nine star heirs were the most terrifying warriors of the world.
And now, the man standing before them was being identified as one? That was a shocking piece of news.
Liao Yuhuang hastily tried to explain. “Prince Chunyang, Long Chen is—”
But Long Chen raised a hand, stopping her. He didn’t need her to speak for him. Long Chen met Li Chunyang’s eyes coldly, his own gaze gradually sharpening.
“And if I am?” Long Chen asked.
Gasps rang out. Could it be true? Could he really be a legendary nine star heir, someone who inherited the will of the Nine Star Master?
But something didn’t add up. The Brahma line was famous for hunting down nine star heirs. With the Star Peering Heavenly Mirror, they could trace any hint of nine star power. Once targeted, the heirs were swiftly eliminated—never given a chance to rise.
Yet, Long Chen had already reached the Heaven Saint realm. How could he possibly have escaped the eyes of the Brahma line?
Smiling slightly, Li Chunyang said, “Mister Long Chen, don’t be nervous. One of my junior apprentice-brothers just told me about you. I heard that the Undying Demon Forest has been destroyed, and the Undying Willow race was annihilated in combat. Apparently, it was all due to a nine star heir called Long Chen. Are you that Long Chen?”
“What?!”
“The Undying Demon Forest has been destroyed?”
“The Undying Willow race… the sovereigns of the vegetative demon race… they were wiped out?!”
The crowd exploded in disbelief. Clearly, this news hadn’t reached them yet.
Liao Yuhuang’s heart clenched. She turned to look at Long Chen and saw it—the weariness in his eyes, the grief etched deep into his soul. That was all the confirmation she needed.
She had wondered why he seemed so tired when they met the previous day. Now she understood… the weight of that tragedy still lingered on his shoulders. Her heart ached for him. Why was his path always filled with so much suffering?
“That’s right, that person is me. Do you have a problem?” asked Long Chen.
“If you really are a nine star heir… then we’ll likely be enemies in the future,” Li Chunyang said, his expression complex.
“Prince Chunyang!” Liao Yuhuang exclaimed.
Turning to her, Li Chunyang asked, “Do you know the origin of the Zither Sect’s supreme art—the Zenith Star Covering Art?”
Liao Yuhuang covered her mouth in shock. Around them, the disciples of the Zither Sect began to smile coldly. Some had already drawn their weapons and were slowly encircling Long Chen.
Long Chen, however, didn’t even glance at them. His eyes were fixed on Li Chunyang.
The Zenith Star Covering Art…
Long Chen had heard of it once before, back in the Vermillion Bird Empire. At the time, he had sensed something off. But now, hearing it again, he realized something.
“So we’ll be enemies? Fine. I have plenty already. One more doesn’t make a difference,” Long Chen said indifferently.
Liao Yuhuang was at a loss for words. She admired Long Chen deeply and had never met a man with such charisma, such will. She didn’t want to be his enemy.
But fate always liked to toy with people. Now, she understood—the Zenith Star Covering Art existed for one purpose: to suppress nine star heirs.
“Why must it be like this…?” she whispered tearfully.
Li Chunyang sighed. “The nine star heirs were the source of the primal chaos war. They almost destroyed the nine heavens and brought endless sorrow to all races. Because of them, the ten thousand races still hold deep hatred toward the human race. Their revenge continues even until today. Just look at how the other races treat us. That is enough to prove everything.”
“Hahaha!” Long Chen suddenly laughed coldly. “Did you see the war with your own eyes?”
Li Chunyang shook his head. “No. But I was born at the end of the primal chaos era. I understand that history far better than you.”
Looking at him, Long Chen said, “The primal chaos war took place in the middle of that era—tens of millions of years before you were born. How do you know the history you learned wasn’t fabricated?”
After shooting Long Chen a pitiable look, Li Chunyang said, “I understand it’s hard for you to accept. But the will you inherited is one of destruction. In contrast, the Zither Sect exists to protect the nine heavens, to guard all the lives in the world. We will stop you.
“Mister Long Chen, your killing intent has consumed you. You’ve become bedeviled. But if you’re willing, you can come with me to the Zither Sect. We’ll use the Three Thousand Music Formation to erase the Nine Star power from your body and free you from its corrupting influence. I swear on my life that no one will do anything harmful to you.”
Li Chunyang’s tone was sincere, even compassionate. But Long Chen’s expression was filled with disdain.
If he hadn’t witnessed the Orchid Mound Divine Sovereign’s past… maybe he would’ve been fooled. Maybe he would’ve thought this man truly had good intentions.
But now, all he saw was hypocrisy.
What truly alarmed him was that Li Chunyang was powerful enough that even the Nine Star Hegemon Body Art’s innate senses couldn’t see through him.
Normally, Long Chen could instantly tell if someone was an enemy or not. But Li Chunyang… was veiled.
Perhaps his mastery of the Zenith Star Covering Art had reached a point where even the Nine Star Hegemon Body Art’s senses were blinded.
“Long Chen…” Liao Yuhuang muttered, looking at him helplessly.
Long Chen remained silent. He finally understood—Li Chunyang wasn’t a simple man. He was a deep schemer, and even he had almost been fooled. As for the innocent Liao Yuhuang, she had no chance of seeing through him.
“What if I refuse to go with you? What will the Zither Sect do?” asked Long Chen.
“As overseers of the heavens, we must protect the heavens as best as we can,” sighed Li Chunyang.
“Hahaha!”
Long Chen raised his head and laughed as if he had just heard the world’s funniest joke.
“What are you laughing at?!”
“Senior apprentice-brother Chunyang is trying to save you!”
“You really are an irredeemable devil. Senior apprentice-brother Chunyang, don’t waste more words on him.”
The Zither Sect disciples were enraged by his laughter. Their killing intent filled the air, turning the plaza ice cold.
But Long Chen ignored them. After his laughter faded, he looked at Li Chunyang and said flatly, “So according to what you just said, you are going to act in place of the Heavenly Daos?”
Shaking his head solemnly, Li Chunyang sighed. “We have no other choice. For the sake of all life, we must act.”
Long Chen said, “And who decided that your understanding of the Heavenly Daos is correct? Did the heavens personally tell you to kill me? Do you receive some kind of divine edict? Or are we all just supposed to believe your words without question?”
Long Chen’s gaze sharpened as he continued, “You are simply a fake gentleman, doing whatever you want under the guise of righteousness!”
“What did you say?!”
The entire Zither Sect erupted in fury, their murderous aura exploding outward and blanketing the entire plaza in ice.
