Chapter 1983: Chapter 1983: He Simply Didn’t Sleep Either

“What do you understand?”

Lady Leng gave her a glare, wishing she could swallow her alive.

“As his birth mother, he should come to pay his respects. Lacking all proper etiquette, does he not hold me in his eyes at all? When I tell you to summon him, just summon him, what is all this fuss about?”

She couldn’t do anything to Leng Nichen now, but dampening his spirits was still possible.

“Hurry up and go!”

Seeing the maid hesitate, she glared and urged her once more.

“Yes, yes, I’ll go right away.”

What could the maid do? Knowing well that he couldn’t be summoned, she still had to try, and so she turned and left.

This day within the Eternal Night Sect was a bustling one, only quieting down as midnight approached.

Lady Leng, furious that the maid had failed to bring Leng Nichen, nearly choked with rage in her own courtyard, cursing so loudly that many disciples within the sect became aware of it.

Leng Yiyu was also cursing Leng Nichen, wishing death upon him.

Both mother and daughter were so infuriated that they couldn’t even eat their dinner, much to the suffering of the maids and servants by their side, who became the outlets for their rage.

As for Sect Master Leng, since An Jiuyue and Qian Jiyun had locked their room door and were seeing no one, he had spent the whole day talking with Leng Nichen, which seemed to have improved the father-son relationship quite a bit.

Of course, that was what Sect Master Leng believed. As for what Leng Nichen thought, Sect Master Leng couldn’t quite discern just yet.

It was only at midnight when the Eternal Night Sect finally quieted down, and the secret passage was opened. Sect Master Leng, wheeling out Leng Yi Kun in his wheelchair, came out of the stone chamber to meet with An Jiuyue, the High Priest Demon Heart.

If it couldn’t be kept secret, then it was better to meet openly and aboveboard.

On the other side, An Jiuyue was busy soothing a child. Little Nuonuo hadn’t slept yet late into the night, keeping Qian Jiyun awake, so they both got up to pacify the child.

“Jiyun, our son is quite the clever one. Knowing we have something to do tonight, he refuses to sleep, insistently staying awake to keep us company.”

An Jiuyue held Little Nuonuo in her arms, lightly tapping his soft, squishy lips with her index finger.

But the little guy had been well fed earlier, and no matter how his mother tried to entice him, he wouldn’t budge an inch, acting as if he felt nothing, instead waving his little hands around trying to grab his mother’s hanging hair.

Too bad he couldn’t catch it, kicking his little feet in frustration.

“You really know how to make excuses for him.”

A twitch played at the corner of Qian Jiyun’s lips, just short of directly saying that their son was a night owl.

Sleeping through the day as though dead to the world, then come nightfall, he was as energetic as anything, acting like a true night hawk. What could he do?

Normally, the Paper Person took care of him in the space, and he pretended not to see it, but tonight was different. The child’s persistent fussing was giving him a headache and he had to take the little one out to see his mother.

He figured the little guy hadn’t seen his mother in several days and was making a fuss because he missed her.

Now here he was, out of the space and no longer crying, behaving in his mother’s arms like a little kitten, the only problem being he wouldn’t sleep.

“Isn’t my reason good enough? Little Nuonuo, is what your mother said right? Do you know we have things to do tonight?”

An Jiuyue blinked several times at the little one, then stood up with him in her arms and walked back and forth, which made the little guy even more spirited.
