Chapter 2055: Not at all
When Lvying laid eyes on Qiao Xuan, she was overcome with fear, nearly losing her wits in terror.
She felt as though her fate was sealed.
Attempting to divert attention by speaking of her master, Lvying found Qiao Xuan unperturbed.
In Anze Prefecture City, the demise of a servant hardly raised eyebrows. Furthermore, Tang Fanghua remained unaware of Lvying’s involvement, and even if she suspected, what could she possibly do?
Surprisingly, Lvying appeared more composed than Qiao Xuan had anticipated.
Though Qiao Xuan issued threats, she refrained from inflicting physical harm. Lvying, overwhelmed with fear, spilled her secrets willingly.
There was no depth to the master-servant bond when one’s life hung in the balance. No loyalty could rival the instinct for self-preservation.
Agreeing to Lvying’s plea to exchange information for her life, Qiao Xuan learned the truth.
Tang Fanghua wasn’t the one who saved Qi.
While Qi lay poisoned and unconscious, Tang Fanghua did encounter him by chance, but she wasn’t his savior. The antidote pills her parents supposedly left for her were a fabrication. Someone else had already cured Qi’s poison before Tang Fanghua stumbled upon him. His recovery coincided with her arrival, leading him to mistakenly credit her with saving him. Seeing an opportunity to gain a life-saving favor, Tang Fanghua ambiguously accepted his gratitude.
Reality had unexpectedly turned in Tang Fanghua’s favor.
Upon discovering Qi’s true identity, she was ecstatic, bordering on euphoria.
With her parents deceased and her hometown inhospitable due to familial greed, she had clandestinely sold her assets, fleeing with two maidservants to seek refuge with her mother’s distant sister. Yet, her hopes of sanctuary were dashed when she couldn’t locate her aunt. Lost in panic and despair, she stumbled upon an unexpected opportunity.
Qi, a fourth-grade general in the Northwest Army, embodied youth and promise, and he had unwittingly become her savior. In her eyes, he represented stability and security. Naturally, Tang Fanghua envisioned him as her lifeline and desired to wed him.
Though she harbored some affection for him, her primary motive was securing a lifetime of support through marriage. In her estimation, there was no better match than Qi.
However, Qi, while remembering his act of saving her life, had no intentions of matrimonial commitment. Despite her advances, he rebuffed her.
This rejection left Tang Fanghua feeling a mixture of anger, embarrassment, and wounded pride.
What was wrong with her? She was his savior!
Tang Fanghua had successfully deluded herself into believing she was Qi’s savior.
“Why wouldn’t he marry her?” she pondered repeatedly.
The more she delved into Qi’s identity and family background, the tighter she clung to him. She knew opportunities like this were rare.
Though Qi hadn’t made any promises, he didn’t seem to detest her either. With determination, she resolved to work tirelessly to win him over.
Yet, despite her efforts, things had reached an impasse.
Qiao Xuan was left stunned.
She hadn’t expected Lvying to lie under such circumstances!
Tang Fanghua’s audacity knew no bounds. Not only had she seized the benefits and fled, but she also sought to settle here permanently.
Fortunately, Qi wasn’t one to be easily swayed. If he couldn’t outright reject her due to courtesy or if her sweet words managed to charm him, it would pose a problem.
