Stop Hypnotizing Me, Villainous Princess!
Chapter 34: Scandal Targeting YvesteChapter 34: Scandal Targeting Yveste
“If those bastards resort to violence, we’ll fight back together. There are more of us; they’ll be the ones to suffer in the end,” a bald man muttered in a low voice among the gathered crowd.
The surrounding people nodded in agreement, their gazes filled with uneasy solidarity.
Despite his stern expression, the man smirked inwardly.
These fools are so easy to manipulate.
With just a little brainwashing, they had become zealots for the Goddess of Creation, willing to follow commands like obedient dogs.
The man, Mark, had no sympathy for these people. Most had been forcibly recruited by the Creationist Sect, but beyond being societal outcasts, they held no real value to him.
Mark wasn’t just their apparent leader—he was also a former member of the Creationist Sect, the last survivor after the sect’s destruction.
Surviving had left him with little to do, but if he could use these sheep as pawns to create trouble for that demon of a woman, it would all be worth it.
Mark recalled the orders from the masked figure who claimed to represent the Saint Roland Empire’s upper echelons:At the right moment, ignite this powder keg and frame Yveste for the explosion.
These 300 people were always meant to die. Their only value was to drag the Empire’s Third Princess into an unprecedented scandal.
Mark knew not all of these displaced people had been brainwashed. Many were simply opportunistic fools who believed the nobility wouldn’t dare dispose of so many lives and sought to leverage their numbers for personal gain.
Idiots. If they think that, they’re already on the path to ruin.
Mark sneered internally.
Suddenly, he noticed a black-haired, blue-eyed youth walking briskly toward the crowd.
“Attention, everyone! Look at me!”
The boy’s loud voice instantly drew every gaze to him, filled with vigilance and suspicion.
But instead of stopping, the youth quickened his pace, a fervent intensity in his eyes that mirrored the zealotry of the crowd.
Then, he spoke again, his tone steady and compelling:
“I used to be just like you! Life felt unbearable, and I had lost all hope.”
“I was disillusioned and desperate, waking up every day to a void of emptiness and despair.”
“People around me despised me, calling me a disgrace, wishing I would disappear from the world.”
“And for a long time, I thought they were right.”
“But perhaps by some twist of fate, in the depths of my darkness, a light shone upon my path.”
“I want you to know—I was once like you, and now, we are no different.”
“As fellow believers of the Creationist Sect, let us praise the Goddess!”
---
Praise the—what?!
Greya froze in disbelief, watching Lynn’s impassioned speech.
For a moment, he almost felt like believing him.
But knowing Lynn, this was probably the prelude to another one of his absurd schemes.
Turning his gaze, Greya saw the two officers gripping their gun holsters.
You’re buying this nonsense too?!
Before he could process it further, a wave of commotion rippled through the crowd.
“Praise the Goddess!”
Several voices rose in fervent response.
You too?! Greya’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, Lynn was leveraging his Lie Eater ability to its fullest extent.
Manipulating the beliefs of over 300 people at once was taxing, but not impossible.
Under its influence, the displaced civilians genuinely believed in his feigned devotion to the Creationist Sect.
However, Lynn’s true goal wasn’t merely completing Yveste’s task.
The moment he stepped off the carriage, a glance at the system revealed a pleasant surprise:
The 300+ civilians were all E-ranked story characters, with one C-rank among them.
If he could max out their storyline deviation rates here, it would net him over 30 system points.
What a profitable setup.
Despite the hundreds of eyes fixed on him, Lynn remained unflinching. To him, these people were nothing more than fattened sheep ready for the slaughter.
He walked back to the carriage and retrieved a chair, setting it conspicuously before the crowd.
Then, with a composed demeanor, he addressed them:
“As you can see, I am a man of status.”
“I come bearing the expectations of the great Princess Yveste, here to solve your problems.”
“If you have grievances, feel free to share them one by one, or select a representative to speak for you. Either way, I will ensure you receive a satisfactory resolution.”
Under the sway of Lie Eater, his words were as soothing as a gentle breeze, quickly winning over the crowd.
Someone from the group shouted, “What about those nobles forcing us to change our faith?!”
“Friend,” Lynn replied with a shake of his head, “I am a believer in the Creationist Sect myself.”
“You should know that Orne City upholds freedom of belief. Otherwise, faiths outside the Three Great Churches wouldn’t even exist here. This claim is baseless, and I assure you it will not happen.”
The crowd murmured in agreement before breaking into cheers.
Watching the scene, Lynn remained expressionless.
Should I pity them? he wondered.
No. In a world as merciless as this, sympathy is the most useless emotion.
Once the cheers died down, Lynn spoke again:
“Of course, my assurances come with one condition.”
“Your faith must be truly devout.”
“Our faith is sincere!” a burly, bearded man near the front shouted boldly.
Lynn’s interest piqued. “Come here. I have a few questions for you.”
The man hesitated, but with the crowd urging him on, he nervously stepped forward.
“Ask away, sir,” he said, his voice tense.
“Relax. I won’t bite,” Lynn said with a reassuring smile. “First, why do you believe in the Goddess of Creation?”
The man hesitated before stammering: “At first... I was taken by force. But later, I came to see the Goddess’s mercy and found solace in Her light.”
“And before that? Was your life going well?” Lynn asked.
The question seemed to strike a nerve.
After a long silence, the man shook his head. “My wife was unfaithful, and even the child she carried wasn’t mine. I wanted her to terminate the pregnancy, but she threatened to kill herself.”
“I turned to drink, and my life fell apart. If not for the Goddess’s guidance, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Pouring his woes out for the first time, the man hoped to earn Lynn’s sympathy—and perhaps entry into the city.
Instead, the boy sitting before him let out a cold laugh.
“You’re unqualified.”
