Kent turned and walked away, JoJo still coiled, his dagger tail pulsing softly.
Outside, chaos reigned… but it awakened the Naga patriarch.
The aftermath of the ambush was swift and brutal. In less than ten breaths after Kent had decimated the assassins outside his room, the rest of the invading forces were cornered by a sudden, terrifying power.
The sea itself answered its master’s call.
The Naga Clan Patriarch, High Lord Varyon, had finally stepped into the battle. A towering figure with skin rippling like living ocean stone, he raised his staff, and from beneath the coral mountains, massive ancient sea beasts answered. Leviathans of the deep, long tamed and sealed by the Naga Clan, awakened.
Two blue-scaled krakens burst through the seafloor, their eyes glowing with ancestral fury. Alongside them swam the Sea Ripper Eel, a monstrous serpent of living lightning. The palace trembled with their presence.
The remaining invaders—Abyssal Shark elites and Coral Spirit assassins—were crushed in a matter of moments. No mercy, no delay.
The dead bodies were retrieved and laid in front of the throne hall. A grim reminder of the price of arrogance.
Minutes later, the Naga throne hall was filled.
All the elders of the clan, royal guards, spiritual advisors, high ministers, and the two princesses—Neela and Nyara—stood silently around the circular jade arena. Kent was also present, dressed simply, yet the divine bow on his back gave him the presence of a celestial executioner.
A bloody pouch was brought before the Patriarch by one of the sea priests.
“This,” the priest said, “was found on the body of the last Coral Spirit commander.”
The Patriarch opened it with a wary hand. Inside, a sealed coral letter, marked with the blood-red trident crest of none other than the Coral Spirit Clan’s ancestor—Khagara the Eternal Reef.
The Patriarch read silently.
The silence in the throne hall deepened as his face darkened with each line. His eyes narrowed. Veins bulged across his neck and temples. Finally, with a thunderous grunt, he hurled the letter to the floor.
“Treachery!” he spat. “They dare—!”
One of the elders moved to pick it up, reading aloud:
“To the Naga Clan,
Your recent activities and your involvement with a land-born human have created unrest in the balance of the sea. We, the Coral Spirit Clan and the Abyssal Shark Clan, declare this as a final warning.
If the so-called ‘chosen one’ enters the forbidden abyss and secures the Sea God’s legacy, the Naga clan must take an oath under the Heavenly Law to share the legacy’s power equally among the three great sea clans.
If you fail to comply, expect a calamity by dawn. We will erase this false legacy of yours and kill the human called Kent. Consider this an act of balance, not vengeance.
— Ancestor Khagara.”
A hush spread through the chamber. Murmurs broke out.
Elder Mavos was the first to speak. “Enough is enough! We’ve bent over for these leeches long enough. It’s time we rise. We shall fight—send Kent into the abyss now. And prepare our armies.”
Another elder, Va’ran, nodded. “Yes. Once Kent enters, there is no turning back. But we shall fortify the temple. If he fails, we fall. But if he succeeds, the Sea God’s power will be ours alone!”
But then, Minister Irosha raised her hand. “Peace… must still be considered. The forbidden abyss is too dangerous. It’s better we pledge half the legacy and gain allies rather than bleed in pride.”
Several advisors murmured in agreement.
Another stood up. “Even if the boy retrieves the legacy, he is not of the sea. He bears no Sea Mark. The law will demand he transfers the power to a rightful heir.”
“But he bears the scaled form,” Princess Neela interrupted. “He was chosen by the Sea Ancestor’s spirit. Do not pretend ignorance.”
The arguments surged louder.
That was when the Patriarch, still seated, raised one hand.
Silence fell.
His cold eyes turned to Kent. This chapter is from the collection at M-VL-EM-PYR.
“You have heard their words. You have seen their doubt. You were brought by Nyara under an ancient seal. Now I ask—what say you, Kent of the land?”
Kent took a step forward and stared at all the spectators.
“I didn’t come here to lead your war councils,” Kent said. “Nor to drag the sea into blood. I was brought here to do one thing — retrieve the Sea God’s legacy. I promised the one who saved me, and I will fulfill it.”
He turned slightly, facing all of them.
“What you do with the legacy after I bring it back is not my concern. I am not of the sea. I bear no mark but my word. If that is not enough… then forget this task. Forget me.”
Gasps rang out. But Kent stood firm.
The Patriarch stared at him.
Then he rose.
The air shifted.
His trident appeared with a flash of blue lightning, slamming into the floor.
BOOOOOM.
The hall shook.
“You have spoken like a true warrior, Human,” the Patriarch said. “I, Patriarch Varyon of the Naga Clan, accept your terms.”
He turned to the elders.
“Prepare our armies. The Coral Spirit Clan and the Abyssal Sharks want blood? Then they will drink their own. Kent shall enter the Forbidden Abyss at dawn. And we… shall defend our temple.”
Murmurs became roars of approval.
The Patriarch continued. “Awaken the dormant sea beasts. Rouse the old formation masters. Open the sealed vaults. And—”
He turned, eyes burning with command.
“—send my decree. Wake the Sleeping Ancestors. Let them know — tomorrow, we walk on the dead bodies of our enemies.”
The chamber roared with energy.
Kent remained quiet.
Beside him, Neela and Nyara exchanged glances—both proud, both worried.
Tomorrow would not be a battle. It would be a storm.
And Kent… would walk straight into its eye.
The night deepened, but not a single soul in the Naga-domain slept.
Orders had been dispatched like bolts of thunder. Couriers on giant sea turtles rode into distant grottos and caverns. Ancient-doors, closed for centuries, creaked open as veterans long retired answered the summons.
The Sea Ancestral Temple, usually calm and quiet, pulsed with activity. Magic-lights lit every corridor. For the first time in an age, the inner sanctum’s war gates were opened.
