Flying in the sky above Dargena City, Adhara felt a breeze before she was pushed back hard by the incredible force that blew past her and struck Rex. She sharply turned in the direction of the lightning strike but saw that it already disappeared, bringing Rex alongside it.
It came and went in an instant, faster than her perception could perceive.
An attack from a tenth-rank realm entity.
"What did we do...?" She frowned, sweat tracing down her face. "We only protected the city!"
Sensing Dravitar's power was enough to dissuade Rex from provoking it, and all of them were in agreement earlier that Dravitar was not to be messed with. It was the ruler of the sky—and if there was no need for it, avoiding a confrontation is best.
But hours later they somehow provoked Dravitar despite not doing it deliberately.
Even though the reason was unclear, something they did earlier must've offended Dravitar.
Knowing Rex, he would be able to handle himself.
He had survived worse situations than this so that attack shouldn't take him out.
Adhara, on the other hand, was completely different. She gulped harshly when she felt something staring directly at her from behind.
It was akin to a burning gaze and she was nervous to check what it was.
Bracing herself, she slowly turned to look behind and was greeted by the same sight as Rex.
"Heukh!" Adhara choked when she saw Dravitar looking at her from a distance.
Both of them were separated for miles and miles away but the gaze was evident.
Only then did Adhara realize that the target—of the attack wasn't Rex, the intense glare from Dravitar showed the answer, it was her, she was the target of the attack but Rex managed to push her out of the way.
"I only manipulated the moonlight, why did it ai-"
Before Adhara could finish, her eyes widened, "It's the sky... I manipulated its sky!"
Under the huge peril of being targeted by a tenth-rank realm mutated animal, Adhara's mind geared hard and found the answer. She manipulated the moonlight with her new ability—but that ability was also, in a way, interfering with the sky. ṛâΝőBƐᶊ
Since the sky is Dravitar's dominion, this act angered it.
"Oh, no!" Adhara yelped, wanting to flee.
Adhara realized that she was in danger—Dravitar wanted to punish her for what she did.
But as she was about to take refuge behind the city's barrier, Dravitar struck again.
It has no mercy for those who dare to manipulate the sky.
BLITZ!
Feeling the sensation of dread grow rapidly, Adhara glanced back at Dravitar.
Her eyes widened as big as they could.
From her eyeballs, one could view the tendrils of lightning strikes reflected on them.
Even Rex was only barely able to dodge the attack.
As for Adhara, there was no chance that she could dodge or react in time.
But as she was about to be obliterated, a shadowy figure blitzed into her vision.
It seemed to be a mutated animal, a mutated bird that exploded with rays—of powerful fire shockwaves, and took on the lightning strike. A powerful clash happened, lightning the sky with its radiance product.
An expanding fire that heated the air tanked the massive lightning strike.
Expecting to be struck, Adhara was surprised when she was fine.
None of the lightning-strike tendrils were able to reach her.
All of them were blocked by the mutated eagle.
Despite the lightning tendrils branching out, in an attempt to circle the mutated eagle, their attempt was shut down as the fiery shockwaves expanded. Eventually, the clash exploded, sending the mutated eagle falling from the sky.
Struck by such a powerful attack, the mutated eagle screeched painfully as it fell.
Adhara wasted no time and came down, away from Dravitar's vision.
She was saved by the mutated eagle and she wouldn't waste the chance it had given her.
Had the mutated eagle didn't step in, she would've been scorched to death.
Landing on the ground, she saw the mutated eagle ahead, bumping into—the regenerated barrier of the city and slid down before chasing onto the ground. She sprinted towards the bird and inspected it.
Rotating its massive body, Adhara saw a deep wound on the mutated eagle's chest.
Not expecting to end up this way, Adhara pulled the hair that cascaded to her face, back.
"Why did this bird help me?" She muttered in confusion.
On the other hand, something entirely different happened inside the city walls.
Upon commanding her side of the wall to victory against the horde of mutated animals—the third captain—Linthia came to check the people to see whether any of them, needed help, it was more for formalities rather than necessity.
Since no mutated animals managed to get close, the people should be fine.
But in case of an overlooked trouble, she decided to check.
"Anyone who is wounded, speak up! Don't hide it, a healer would gladly heal you!
"No, we're completely fine."
"Is the threat neutralized? I still haven't finished my drinks"
Linthia sighed in relief upon hearing the people's response.
As expected, the people were fine, doing great to be exact as none seemed to be scared.
All of them had full faith in the Emperor and that alone made them unafraid.
Glancing towards the walls near the main entrance, Linthia squinted her eyes, and saw the Empress heading to the other side of the wall. Evelyn saw what had happened—to Adhara and quickly rushed in to check.
Dindora was still at the very front so she needed to accompany the Empress.
Knowing how Valthor treated her, she didn't trust Valthor in the least.
She, as the captain, should be beside the Empress outside of the castle, not Valthor.
Just then, however, Linthia was startled when she heard a piercing scream.
Piercing through the crowd, telling them to move aside, Linthia came to see a woman who was not an Awakened was stabbed by a man. Her eyes widened when she saw this and in reflex, she cut through their gap, grabbed the man's throat, lifted him up—and also forced him to let go of the knife.
It was done in a couple of seconds.
Linthia neutralized the man and turned to the woman, the knife still deep inside her.
"Take her away and bring her to the healer," She instructed.
Upon hearing this, the guards behind her quickly helped the woman and brought her away.
As soon as the whimpering woman was brought away, Linthia focused back on the man and gripped his throat tightly. She couldn't find a reason as to why the man stabbed the woman, especially at this time.
"Why did you stab her?" She asked but received no reply. "Answer me!"
Despite her tightening grip, the man didn't show an expression of someone being choked.
He has no natural response and tries to reach for Linthia's head instead.
Linthia frowned, the man didn't seem natural, and she felt something was wrong with him.
"U- Uh... Captain Linthia..." A voice interrupted her.
Glancing to the side, Linthia found two males Awakened with a pale expression.
Both of them have fear and confusion in their eyes.
"Is there something wrong? Do you know this person?" Linthia asked.
"Y- Yes..." One of them answered. "He's our friend and she was supposed to be injured"
"Injured? Doesn't look injured to me. Why did he stab that woman? Did he know her?"
"It's true, he was struck in the chest by a mutated animal. A few of his ribcages broke. And as for that woman—I don't think he knows her. We're even surprised, that he did that suddenly. I swear he was really injured earlier!"
As Linthia was dealing with the situation, a guard came sprinting towards her.
"Captain!"
"What's wrong? Is the horde coming back?"
"No, it's not that—the dead... they're alive!"
"Hmm? The dead are alive? That's good then, bring them to the healers to be healed"
"No, not like that. I'm talking about the dead coming back to life, all of them!"
"What...?"
Upon hearing that, Linthia turned to the man she was holding by the throat.
It was only then that she realized what was wrong with him.
He was cold and Linthia couldn't feel any pulse even though she gripped his neck deeply.
As it turns out, the man was already dead!
Frowning deeply at the realization, Linthia turned toward the castle, her gaze locking onto the tower, where Kileena's Analyzer stood. Her immediate suspicion was that this was the work of Chaos, but the readings revealed otherwise.
Her suspicion was wrong, this was not the work of chaos.
Looking back at the man in her grasp, Linthia thought of what she would do.
But the two men on the side quickly knelt down on their knees.
"Please, captain. Don't kill him, something must be possessing him!"
"Yes, captain. He's a great guy, he wouldn't have done it otherwise"
Undecided on what to do, Linthia cast a spell.
She locked the man's mind and stopped his body from being able to move by his will.
"Keep a watch on him until I come back," She finally said before leaving.
Rushing to the scene—following the guard who came to report to her, Linthia was brought to the other side of the city. She, and the guard climbed the city walls and looked down, only to see the other guards were battling against the living dead.
Linthia became even more confused.
"So it wasn't the work of a unique mutated animal?"
"All of the wounded deteriorated quickly and then they came back to life minutes later. I don't think this is done by a unique mutated animal. If that were the case, the mutated animal must be eye-catching. But there were no mutated animals that are exceptional"
"Must be a spell but who cast it? A spell that could manipulate death... the Undead?"
Naturally, Linthia suspected the Undead as a spell of that nature could only belong to them.
"No, I saw the blood of one of them turn black and then they turned"
"Blood? So is it the Vampires? No that can't be, the Vampires wouldn't do that"
A series of questions emerged but Linthia was completely at a loss.
She didn't know what to do.
All she could do right now was to restrain the dead until the Silverstar Pack came back.
Considering that this was a matter of the people's lives, she couldn't be rash.
Pivoting towards the guard, she commanded, "Tell the Empress or Lady Adhara about this,"
"I'll help the others to restrain the dead," She added.
Not even waiting for a response, Linthia leaped down from the walls.
On the other hand, the guard checked on her for a moment before he sprinted away.
Moments later.
Rex's clone within the Elven Kingdom, woke up from meditation, Evelyn already informed him through telepathy that there was a situation back in the city. Since the real Rex was far away from home due to Dravitar's attack, the clones were called back.
<Notice: the user's city is under attack!>
"Is there something wrong?" Gistella asked, sensing the change.
Upon hearing this, Rex nodded, "Something came up, stay here and recuperate. I'll be back"
"Should we come back with you first? I don't think the other minion would attack tonight"
"No, there's no need. It's not something that needed strength so it's fine"
"Okay, keep me updated. I'll tell Flunra about this when he wakes up"
As soon as she said that, the clone nodded and dashed away.
He headed for the teleportation formation at the Elven Kingdom's capital city.
A couple of miles away from where Gistella and Flunra were, a figure sniffed the night air and sensed the opportunity had come. It emerged from the darkness and directed its eyes at the tree with a smile on its face.
"Come and follow me, the Alpha had left," It said with a whispering voice.
Just then, more pair of eyes emerged from the darkness behind, responding to its command.
Each one of them was gleaming with lethality.
Sensing an Elven Sentry coming to pass, the figure and its underlings stepped back again.
All of them disappeared into the darkness, their intentions for being here unknown.
