“That’s very conscientious of him,” the Emperor of Harmony remarked with a half-amused tone. “They have grit. I will give them that. There is a reason that the Sekigahara Confederate managed to become a Sage-level powerhouse in the first place, in addition to the Fruit of Healings, which I have seized.”
The other peak Martial Sages around the table turned to gaze at him with a dubious expression.
“Now then,” his powerful golden eyes returned to all of them. “What were we discussing before we were interrupted?”
The Reverend of Reckoning directed an intensely sharp gaze at the Emperor of Harmony.
“Do you think I do not know what you’re doing?”
The Emperor of Harmony simply gazed at him silently.
“You’re trying to monopolize all power on this continent,” Queen Linaliana of the Solaris Kingdom glared at him in a seat opposite him.
Two peak Martial Sages directed tremendous mental pressure on the Emperor of Harmony.
And yet, he didn’t so much as flinch, not because of Sage Sayfeel who stood faithfully behind his liege, but because the Emperor of Harmony himself had the composure to maintain his dignity.
Human leaders underwent special and intense psychological training to withstand the mental pressure from Martial Sages.
But save for Emperor Rael and the Britannian Prime Minister, none could maintain their composure in front of a peak Martial Sage.
“You’re right.”
Much to the surprise of the peak Martial Sages, the Emperor of Harmony openly admitted to it without offering excuses.
“The fact of the matter is that without this, human civilization would be too divided and the collectivist reforms that I have planned for the next five years would not come in time,” the Emperor of Harmony remarked with a cool tone. “This maximizes human civilization’s probability of survival.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit,” the Reverend of Reckoning growled. “You just want power for the sake of power.”
The Emperor of Harmony simply gazed at the Reverend of Reckoning.
“Do you truly believe that?”
The Reverend of Reckoning simply stared at him with intense distrust.
“I think human civilization would have looked very different if I was just a man who cared for power for the sake of power,” the Emperor of Harmony closed his eyes. “For one, I would abused and exploited human civilization for the sake of Kandria in the eleven years that you all were gone. But I didn’t. I protect human civilization. I even went out of my way to share blood humans with all of you for what was frankly peanuts.”
His golden eyes opened peering deep into the eyes of the Namgung Patriarch.
“If I was truly a power mongerer, would I have not kept all blood humans for myself and brainwash them to become my loyal warriors? In a few centuries, I would have Martial Sages as powerful Transcendents perhaps. I could even accelerate that process with the manifold, making it so that I could become God Emperor of human civilization in just a matter of a decade or two.”
His gaze shifted to Queen Linaliana. “Instead, I chose to distribute blood humans across human civilization. I chose to have the Psycher and the Beggar Sage cooperate into ensuring that they integrate into human civilization without forming another species that enslaves or exterminates our own.”
The Reverend of Reckoning’s expression relented.
The Emperor of Harmony had made a powerful point.
“I do not care for power,” the Emperor of Harmony continued. “I care for the Kandrian Empire. And in the current situation, that is identical to caring for all of human civilization. For if human civilization grows weak, then so does the Kandrian Empire. I cannot protect this nation if all of your nations fall. And while this might seem arrogant, the best way to protect human civilization and the Kandrian Empire is to…”
His eyes sharpened.
“Seize all power in my own hands.”
Had any one else dared uttered such an absurdly arrogant remark, he would have been scoffed off on the spot.
And yet, none of the other Martial Sages could bring themselves to push back.
That didn’t mean that they would accept his rule over them, but at the very least, he wasn’t the standard power-mongerer.
“You should accept this arrangement if you want what’s best for your nations,’ the Emperor of Harmony told the Namgung Patriarch. “I suspect that… the Namgung Dynasty might suffer if not for that.”
The Reverend of Reckoning grew grave at those words. “Is that a threat?”
The air grew heavy with tension.
The atmosphere tingled with peril.
“Not at all,” the Emperor of Harmony continued with an unfazed tone. “It’s just that my team at the Esocline Federation working on the alien aircraft and unconscious alien entity have noted that neither entity has almost any esoteric matter except for ‘antimatter,’ which the Esoterist is confident was artificially produced. In other words…”
The Emperor of Harmony narrowed his eyes. “We may be dealing with a civilization that doesn’t have any esoteric matter.”
The peak Martial Sages widened their eyes. “What?!”
“More importantly, the Esoterist assumed that if esoteric matter was one of the true world’s motives to seize our continent, then…” he opened a map of the Panama Continent on his screen, showing it to Reverend of Reckoning. “Then the Namgung Dynasty might be their number one target.”
The map was black with a line drawing of the Panama Continent, featuring a gradient of light across the entire map.
The light represented esoteric matter concentration.
And among them, one point stood out like a star in the night sky.
“…The primordial seed mines of the Namgung Dynasty!” Sage Jinryong gritted his teeth with severity.
“Correct,” the Emperor of Harmony remarked. “Esoteric matter is generally considered to be a fundamentally different kind of matter from regular matter and gives off different energy signatures that could be used to track them with satellite technology, which we are certain our enemies have. So…”
The Emperor of Harmony shrugged. “If you don’t join my Martial Insurance Pact, then there is a good chance that you will have to protect your nation from an all-out invasion from true world civilizations.”
