2730 Introducing Daoist Chu And Testing
Meng Bai had been waiting anxiously for Lin Mu as an entire day had gone by.
He had tried to train but wasn't able to fully focus, though he had managed to finish his writing work at least.
Pat pat
He felt a couple of pats on his back and turned to see the twins.
"It'll be fine," a tiny black bird spoke. "Master is strong!" she assured.
"Yes," Meng Bai replied, but he still felt unsure.
After all, while he had seen Lin Mu defeat the High Elder easily, he was still going up against an entire immortal sect alone. Just in terms of numbers, Lin Mu would be outnumbered, and that was not counting the arrays and weapons the sect might have.
But just as the twins and Ashy were trying to console the boy, the twins sensed something.
They turned their heads, observing the small red dot approaching from the distance.
"What is it?" Meng Bai turned to look but couldn't see anything.
HISS HISS
The twins hissed in joy as they sensed their master.
"Master! He's back!" Ashy cheered, sensing him as well.
"Really?" Meng Bai stood up, wondering if Lin Mu was fine.
It wasn't until the figure of Little Shrubby grew bigger that he could finally spot Lin Mu on his back.
"He's with someone?" Meng Bai noticed a new person with Lin Mu.
A few moments later, they landed on the cliff edge, and Meng Bai saw them clearly.
"Master! You're back!" Meng Bai said aloud and approached him. "And you're… totally fine?" he was surprised.
Forget injuries—Lin Mu's clothes seemed immaculate, as if he had just gotten a fresh set from the tailor.
"Haha, it would take a lot more than some measly sect to harm your master," Daoist Chu laughed. "You sure have a worrisome disciple," he said, taking a look at Meng Bai.
His senses washed over Meng Bai, observing the boy's body condition and Dantian.
"Hmm… Peak of the Core Condensation realm. Not the best, but still quite good," Daoist Chu said first. "And his body seems to be free of impurities too. Damn, even immortal sects would find it hard to find someone with such a physique," he added, not knowing that this was actually Lin Mu's work.
"Master, who's this?" Meng Bai couldn't help but ask. 'Master's friend?' he guessed.
"This is Daoist Chu. My friend and someone whom I've gone on life-and-death battles with," Lin Mu introduced.
"Ah! Junior Meng Bai greets Senior Daoist Chu!" Meng Bai quickly bowed his head.
"Haha, it's all good. You don't need to follow formalities with me," Daoist Chu said, helping the boy up.
"Master, was it all…" Meng Bai uttered.
"It's done," Lin Mu spoke. "The River Bending Axe Sect is no more."
Meng Bai's eyes went wide as he took a step back.
"R-really?" he couldn't believe his ears.
But then he looked at Daoist Chu.
"Ah! You had help," Meng Bai realized.
"Nope, that was all your master," Daoist Chu corrected. "By the time we arrived, he had already leveled the sect."
"It wasn't just me. I had a helping hand from hundreds of worlds away," Lin Mu admitted.
"Another person helped you?" Meng Bai was surprised.
"I'll introduce her to you when we meet her next time," Lin Mu said.
'Her?' Meng Bai quickly picked up on the word.
Before he could think any further, though, Lin Mu spoke.
"Little Shrubby, time for some food. It's already morning."
"On it!" Little Shrubby moved like a blur, and a wide array of cooking utensils appeared along with ingredients.
"I haven't had his food for a while. This will be good," Daoist Chu said, looking forward to it.
A while later, they all had their fill, and Meng Bai was sprawled on the ground, feeling stuffed.
"That was… nice," Meng Bai said, finding it hard to speak from all that he had eaten.
He stayed like that for a few minutes until he felt good enough to sit down and cultivate to absorb all the energy.
"When can I test him?" Daoist Chu asked.
"Once he's done absorbing, I suppose," Lin Mu replied. "Shouldn't be long."
A few hours later, Meng Bai was done, and Lin Mu called him over.
"Daoist Chu wants to test you," Lin Mu said.
"Test me?" Meng Bai raised his brows. "On what?"
"Formations, of course," Daoist Chu replied.
"What should I do?" Meng Bai asked.
"Anything you think you can do best. Show me your best work," Daoist Chu replied.
"Daoist Chu is also a formation master and wants to see your skills," Lin Mu explained.
"Okay, I can do that." Meng Bai nodded before getting to work.
He decided to go with his forte—talismans. Daoist Chu watched him work and noticed his crooked handwriting.
"Hmm… He needs to improve on the lettering," Daoist Chu remarked.
"Yeah, we're working on that. He's already improved quite a lot since I last saw him," Lin Mu replied.
"Well, considering that he's never had formal training, this is passable," Daoist Chu said, before noticing the way Meng Bai was arranging the runes. "Oh?"
He took a closer look and saw that Meng Bai's way of orienting the runes was a bit different than usual.
"This is not a talisman formation," Daoist Chu observed.
He watched for a while longer before realizing what it was.
"Qi Obscuring Smoke Formation?" he recognized.
"This is his own work. He managed to turn a stationary formation into a talisman," Lin Mu said with a hint of pride.
"Hoho!" Now Daoist Chu was even more interested in Meng Bai's work.
An hour later, Meng Bai was done, and the runes on the talisman glowed.
"Please work…" Meng Bai muttered to himself.
He didn't want to fail in front of his master's friend, after all. He had done his best and could see his improvement, as he had managed to finish the talisman in half the time it had taken him before.
