With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods
Chapter 1092 - 1092: Dragon auction (2)The first item that was brought out was a fang.
It was a very eye catching item, which was why it was brought out as the first item.
This was the kind of item that would get people excited and would put them in the mood to spend far more than they should.
It was clearly seen by how the nobles all sat up in their seats once the fang was taken out.
The looks on their faces showed that they could already imagine themselves holding a sword that was made from this fang. A dragon fang sword would no doubt be flashy and would make them stand out.
Now it was all just about whether they could get it or not.
When the nobles came back from their delusions, it was easy for them to see that others had the same idea as them. It was clear that the other nobles also wanted this sword for themselves, so there would be a fight over this.
It would come down to who has more money to take this sword home.
Once they came to this conclusion, there were even more determined looks that appeared on the faces of the nobles.
The auctioneer had been silent during this time because she knew that the longer that she waited to announce the item, the higher the price would be. She allowed the nobles to get themselves motivated to bid as much as possible before going in for the kill.
This patience showed just how skilled of an auctioneer she was.
Once the crowd was ready, the auctioneer started with the minimum bid.
She didn’t actually bother giving a minimum increase since she knew that none of these nobles would do anything as embarrassing as increasing the bid by a small amount. If they were to actually do that, they would just be looked down on even if they won the item.
This auction was the place where they were planning to show off their power and wealth, so it was only natural that they wouldn’t do anything that would embarrass themselves.
Such as increasing the bid by a small amount because they couldn’t bear to spend more money.
As such, there was no need for the auctioneer to actually say anything.
Even without her prompting, the nobles already started raising the price of this dragon fang without any hesitation. It was as if they didn’t even see money as money with the way that they threw out their gold coins.
The merchants that had been thinking about joining in to see if they could get it at a price where they could make a profit immediately gave up this thought. After all, the bidding price had already reached a point where it would be impossible for them to make a profit.
In the end, the merchants just couldn’t compete with the nobles.
The nobles were the highest class in this class based society, so that meant that they had plenty of money to spare.
For them, owning this dragon fang wasn’t about gaining money.
For them, it was all about gaining pride from being the one that obtained the dragon fang.
But even though they had money, there was a limit to how much a noble could spend.
It all depended on their rank.
The higher the rank, the more land and people that a noble had to make money off.
So those with lower ranks just couldn’t keep up when those with higher ranks bid.
At this point, there were only two viscounts and a count that were left.
The three of them didn’t seem like they were planning on giving up this dragon fang.
Only the two viscounts just couldn’t match the count in the end.
However, when the count won the bid, there was a trace of bitterness in his smile. Even though he had won, it was clear that he had destroyed his own budget and had knocked himself out of the race for any other items.
There was no way that he would be able to buy anything else when he overspent on this dragon fang like this.
The only one that was happy about how this ended was Lin Fan who had a wide smile on his face seeing how much the count had spent on the dragon fang.
Since he had put these things up for auction, it was only natural that he had looked up the average prices of these dragon items.
The count had actually spent three times what this dragon fang was worth to buy it.
It just went to show how good an auction was to raise the price of an item.
There was no better way to put pressure on the sellers than to let them do it themselves.
For the next few dragon items, the same thing happened where they kept outbidding each other and raising the price to the point where it was hard for anyone to keep up.
That meant that all of these items had been sold for far more than what they were actually worth.
But when the seventh item came up…
“Two thousand.”
This was a bid from one of the VIP rooms that had hidden their appearance.
As soon as this bid came through, it was as if there was a signal that was sent through the room.
As soon as this bid came through, it was as if there was something that was drained from this room.
Almost all of the nobles seemed to lose their enthusiasm when this voice rang out.
It was as if there was something that had given them a warning that made them stop.
As such, the bid of two thousand was the bid that remained the highest.
It didn’t seem like anyone else was willing to bid against this person.
Even the merchants who had been waiting for their chance knew better than to bid against this person.
“It seems like they’re already taking action. In that case, I guess I should do my part.” Lin Fan said to himself as he looked in the direction of the VIP room that made the bid.
After all, he really couldn’t just let them take it for two thousand.
What was being sold was a batch of dragon blood, which was worth at least five thousand gold coins.
To let them take it for less than half price…
That just wasn’t something that Lin Fan was willing to do.
“Three thousand.” Lin Fan suddenly said as the auctioneer was about to finish the count.
The moment that he made this bid, there was a deathly silence that hung in the air as many people turned to look in the direction of the VIP room that this voice came from. After all, none of them could believe that someone had actually made a bid against this person.
All of the nobles knew that the ones that were in the hidden VIP rooms were the ones that represented the leaders of the three factions. They were the ones that were playing the real game here and they couldn’t interfere with that game.
Which was why they didn’t dare to bid when they heard a bid come from one of those rooms.
Yet there was someone that dared to bid against them.
They couldn’t tell if this person was bold or crazy…or maybe just plain stupid.
But since they had made a bid, it wasn’t as if the person from the VIP room could back down.
“Three thousand and one hundred.”
Though it was only a hundred this was already the biggest concession that this person could make. After all, he was representing one of the heads of the three factions here, so it wasn’t as if he could lower himself too much.
He had to show that he was above whoever was bidding.
And at the same time, this was a warning for that person that made the bid.
“Do it again.”
That was the gist of his tone when he made this bid.
“Four thousand.” Lin Fan didn’t hesitate at all when he made this bid.
The moment that this bid was dropped, there was a simultaneous cold breath that came from the crowd as they just couldn’t believe what they were hearing.
He definitely wasn’t bold or crazy, he was stupid.
He dared to provoke someone that was representing one of the six factions that were in power in this Kalos Empire.
Did he really think that he would be able to get away that easily after this auction?
Did he really think that he would be able to hide himself just with this magic array?
“Four thousand and one.” The same VIP room made this bid through gritted teeth.
At this point, it was a naked challenge to the person that was still bidding.
Only he received a slap to the face when Lin Fan said, “Five thousand gold coins.”
“You! You dare!” The person in the VIP room roared out after hearing Lin Fan’s bid.
Only Lin Fan just calmly said, “This is an auction. If you want to win something, then take out your money. There’s no point to words.”
The person in the VIP room clenched his fists right after hearing this before saying, “Are you going to let this mockery continue? I don’t believe that he even has enough money to pay for this item!”
“Sir, we have already vetted all the guests in the VIP rooms. If they couldn’t afford this item, we definitely wouldn’t have allowed them in the VIP rooms in the first place. It’s just like your situation.” The auctioneer said in a calm voice.
