Chapter 1978: No Escape
Beneath the dome of heaven.
As Su Yi flew with all his might, his thoughts raced.
The Angler had attacked numerous times thus far, and his wounds were piling on. His skin was torn in numerous places, and his blood flowed continuously.
None of his wounds were lethal, but the more time passed, the more he exhausted his cultivation base.
Luo Tiandu was right. The gods have been preparing to kill me for a long, long time, and they’ve made thorough preparations, thought Su Yi.
There were two main threats.
First, the gods had long since predicted that he had the foundations necessary to break into the Great Profound Stage, and they’d taken advance measures. They’d interfered with the opportunities to break through available in the Immortal Realm’s Laws!
This would make it all but impossible for him to seize the opportunity he needed to break through.
Second, Master Gods like the Angler knew his trump cards like the backs of their hands. They knew that he couldn’t display the Sword of the Nine Hells’ full strength before achieving divinity. They even knew that the more he used the Sword of the Nine Hells, the more severely it depleted his cultivation base.
That meant that the moment he reached the end of his rope, he’d struggle to escape disaster!I have to change my approach as soon as possible. Su Yi’s thoughts raced. He was just up against the Angler right now, but even that was enough to put him into a wretched state. If more Master Gods entered the fray, the consequences would be unimaginably dire.
Right, I might be able to ask that little guy for help! Su Yi’s heart stirred as something occurred to him.
As a natural divinity born of the Immortal Realm’s chaos source, the little monkey was likely to know the Epoch Battlefield like the back of his hand. With the little monkey’s help, he’d be able to find a safe place to seek refuge from this crisis.
So long as he managed to buy enough time to catch his breath, Su Yi was confident he could turn this around!
“Hey, little fellow. Can you give me directions?” Su Yi transmitted to the little monkey hidden in the Divine Replenishment Furnace.
The little guy was quite intelligent, and it stretched out his hand and pointed the way, gibbering all the while.
Su Yi silently shifted directions, but within less than ten minutes, three new figures appeared blocking his path!
They were two men and one woman. They’d obviously been waiting there for quite some time. And… all three of them were newly ascended gods! Their divine majesty blanketed the sky and blotted out the sun. It was far beyond the bounds of the Great Realm.
Practically the moment they saw Su Yi, the three of them attacked in unison.
Boom!
A tall, stalwart man in black robes gripped a spear and stirred up a golden windstorm, filling the sky. It stretched across three hundred thousand feet of sky, like a natural wind barrier blocking the way ahead.
“Go!” An ornately dressed middle-aged man flung an enormous and grand sword formation in Su Yi’s direction.
The woman in the long black dress, meanwhile, flashed through the air and vanished.
Su Yi’s brow furrowed. He didn’t even need to guess that these three new gods were the Angler’s assistants. Otherwise, how could they possibly have been waiting for him here?
And if they intercepted him, how could the Angler possibly let such a prime opportunity to kill him slip through his fingers?
These thoughts flashed through Su Yi’s mind in an instant. He charged explosively ahead, not pausing in the slightest.
“Die!!” An icy voice boomed, and the woman in black strangely appeared over Su Yi’s head. Her hands each gripped a blade curved like the crescent moon, and she swung with all her might.
Boom!
The Sword of Proximity rumbled and boomed, scattering chaos sword qi.
The woman in black had yet to draw near when she suffered a lethal strike.
Crunch! Crack!
Chaos sword qi sliced the air to ribbons, shattering the woman’s twin blade strikes. A moment later, her body split into pieces.
In the last moments before her death, astonishment was written all over her beautiful face. She’d only just become a god. She was stronger than ever before. Who’d have thought she’d perish beneath a single attack?
Boom!
Heaven and earth shook.
As the woman in black died, Su Yi streaked ahead like an unstoppable beam of light, not pausing in the slightest.
He was heavily wounded, but his sword intent was forceful beyond measure.
When the ornately dressed middle-aged man’s sword formation descended, Su Yi neither fled nor dodged. He just charged straight through.
Boom!
The sky collapsed, and the imposing, terrifying sword formation split down the midline, opening a massive rift.
Practically simultaneously, the Sword of Proximity decapitated the middle-aged man.
Instant death!
When Su Yi slew Jiang Tai’e, he refrained from using the Sword of Proximity, but now, he was going all out with his life on the line!
When Su Yi gave it his all, neither the ornately dressed middle-aged man nor the woman in black could block a single hit!
Off in the distance, only the man in black and his barrier of wind remained. He was the only survivor.
When he saw Su Yi cleave through his companions with unstoppable force, and when he witnessed his companions’ instant deaths, the man in black was scared out of his wits.
But then, the Anglers’ voice suddenly resounded throughout heaven and earth.
“Don’t try to fight him head-on! All you have to do is hold him back!”
“Got it!”
He attacked with all his might, his divine majesty surging around him. In an instant, he’d created over one hundred enormous golden windstorms.
Heaven and earth were in chaos as the golden windstorms swept outward, one after another. The sky collapsed as it was ripped to shreds.
Were any Great Profound Stage expert here, they’d have been sliced to bits instantly, destroyed in both body and soul. This was the power of a god!
Su Yi disregarded all that and charged forth, like the most dazzling beam of light beneath the heavens!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of heaven-shaking explosions rang out as one golden windstorm after another split and collapsed.
But there were far too many of them, and they impeded Su Yi’s charge. Although his speed was unnervingly, shockingly quick, he slowed down just enough to give the Angler an opportunity!
“You won’t escape this time, heretic!” A heaven-shaking bellow rang out as the Angler descended and stretched out his right arm.
Boom!
A nebula full of countless stars descended, sealing off ninety thousand feet of sky and thoroughly entrapping Su Yi.
As the Angler approached, a talisman carved with countless markings of the Divine Dao appeared in his hand. He swung it ruthlessly through the air.
Bang!
Heaven and earth swayed.
The talisman transformed into a black divine stele and descended upon Su Yi with such force that his bones almost shattered. The terrifying pressure ripped open his flesh, creating countless gashes.
The black divine stele’s power was just too terrifying. One attack had badly injured Su Yi and trapped him on the spot!
Countless stars filled the surrounding nine hundred thousand feet of sky, like a world of the Grand Dao. They severed every possible escape route!
“You’ve done well. Later, I’ll send someone to usher you into the God Domain.” The Angler glanced approvingly at the man in black, then returned his attention to Su Yi. He smiled with unconcealable delight.
“The Celestial Transformation Nebula and the Ninespirit Divine Restriction Stele Talisman are just forbidden treasures of the Creation Realm, but if used appropriately, they can suppress even Mid-Rank Gods of the Limit Realm.”
The Angler was no longer frantic. He just stood there, appraising Su Yi.
Su Yi was completely mangled and incomparably wretched. His blue robes were now completely red with blood, and he was covered in countless wounds. The black stele suppressed even his vital energy, and he wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
But his gaze was still composed, profound, and terrifyingly calm!
This made the Angler frown, but a moment later, he smiled. “I’m waiting for your death throes. Even if you somehow manage to break the Ninespirit Divine Restriction Stele Talisman and escape the Celestial Transformation Nebula, I predict you’ll pay an incomparably grievous price to do so!
“I can tell that you aren’t much better off than me,” said Su Yi, his voice a bit hoarse. “Your avatar of will is on its last legs. Otherwise, why would you be afraid to strike the killing blow immediately?”
It had been a long time since he’d last found himself in such a wretched state. He’d been forced almost to the end of his rope. He wasn’t just badly injured; he’d all but exhausted his cultivation base, too!
Moreover, he was trapped, with no power to escape.
But Su Yi didn’t lose heart.
Sword cultivators didn’t fear death, and they never lowered their heads in the face of peril!
The Angler narrowed his eyes and sighed. “You’re right. I prepared all manner of methods to capture you, and I’ve already used almost all of them up. Like it or not, even I have to admit that I underestimated your strength and misjudged how difficult it would be to capture you.”
He meant every word, too.
At first, he assumed that the Great Unity Stage Su Yi could at best contend with a Lesser God No matter how heaven-defying he was, Su Yi should never have been able to escape him.
Who could have anticipated that Su Yi’s strength would far surpass the Angler’s predictions?
Fortunately, when the dust settled and the chase ended, Su Yi was a beast in a cage. He might well have enough power left to lash out before he died, but there was no way he could wriggle his way out of this!
As they conversed, the black divine stele descended, inch by inch, with such pressure that it seemed it would soon crush Su Yi flat.
His bones creaked audibly, unable to bear its weight, and blood flowed uncontrollably from the corners of his lips.
The Angler took it all in with a smile. The more time passed, the greater his advantage!
“Alas, you’re doomed to fail in the end,” whispered Su Yi. The depths of his inscrutable gaze shone with determination.
The Angler was instantly solemn, but on the outside, he laughed. “You plan to lash out before you die? Go ahead and show me!”
“As you wish.” Su Yi’s voice had only just echoed through the air when…
Boom!
His essence, qi, and spirit seemed to ignite, and his entire body surged with inscrutable, unparalleled sword intent.
The black divine stele shook violently as if about to topple. The Angler’s expression shifted, and a black knife emerged from his sleeves.
At the same time, he stretched out his hand and grabbed from afar.
Bang!
The man in black had been standing far away when he found himself dragged over. His expression shifted dramatically. “Esteemed Master God, what are you doing?”
“Go on, attack with all your might. Stop whatever it is he’s doing. If you survive, I’ll accept you as my closed-door disciple. If you die, well, don’t blame me for my heartlessness,” said the Angler. As he spoke, he flung the man in black at Su Yi.
The man in black panicked, but he dared not hesitate in the slightest. He activated a forbidden technique in a mad frenzy and attacked explosively.
He had no time to waste cursing the Angler’s heartlessness and cruelty. He knew that if he didn’t give it his all, he’d die.
If he fought hard enough, he might well eke out a chance at life!
