Chapter 1979: Interference

The black divine stele shook as if about to fall.

Su Yi’s tall, upright figure looked as if it had caught ablaze, and that terrifying, mysterious, and unparalleled sword force rose rapidly around him!

When the tall man in black robes attacked with his life on the line, Su Yi took action too. He gripped the floating Sword of Proximity and shifted his wrist.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Sword intent swept out in waves, resounding throughout the cloudy dome of heaven. A waterfall of chaos sword qi spread from the sword’s now four-foot blade.

And when Su Yi swung the sword…

Bang!

Sword qi shot forth, and the man in black was reduced to ash and scattered to the wind. He offered no more resistance than paper.

One slash, and a newly minted god was crushed like an ant!

When the sword qi swept outward, the nearby stars trembled and exploded, one after another.

Off in the distance, the Angler snorted coldly, raised his hand, and pressed down on the air.

Boom!

The nebula sealing nine hundred thousand feet of sky continuously constricted, ruthlessly bearing down on Su Yi from all sides.

Meanwhile, the black divine stele rumbled above Su Yi’s head, erupting with imposing light. Its power instantly expanded considerably.

Su Yi drew his fingertip over the flat of the four-foot blade, then swung his sword and charged. It was a simple charge, that’s all, yet indomitable sword force exploded forth.

At that moment, Su Yi was like the sun illuminating the sky, and his radiance was full of chaos sword qi. Wherever it passed, nothing could stand in its way.

The black divine stele collapsed with a bang, splitting into pieces, and the nine-hundred-thousand-foot nebula shattered into pieces and receded like waters at low tide.

Su Yi maintained his forward momentum and charged at the Angler, crushing everything in his path as if it were made of rotten wood.

When the Angler sensed what was happening, his expression finally shifted. He’d predicted that Su Yi’s death throes would be scary. Still, he hadn’t anticipated that Su Yi’s no-holds-barred attack would be this terrifying!

“Hah!” The Angler’s robes billowed around him as a black knife took to the sky.

Practically simultaneously, the charging Su Yi attacked in midair.

Clang!!!

Their clash shook the heavens, and a flood of destructive power swept out from the point of impact, collapsing and tearing the sky in countless places. The nearby mountains were flattened like tofu.

The Angler was suddenly sent flying backward. He flew several hundred feet before finally managing to stabilize himself.

Numerous dense cracks had already appeared all over his avatar of will. His hair was loose and disheveled. He obviously looked as wretched as could be.

His face was ashen, and he was obviously enraged. Still, when he saw Su Yi’s condition, he couldn’t help but smile.

Su Yi’s wounds were severe, and he was covered in blood. His vital energy was on the verge of collapse. Even his terrifying momentum showed signs of ebbing.

There was no doubt about it. Su Yi had broken through his encirclement, but he was nearing the end of his rope!

“Can you unleash an attack of that caliber a second time?” A smile appeared on the Angler’s face, and as he spoke, he raised his hand and tapped the air.

Boom!

That short black knife blurred into a streak of black light and descended from the heavens, exploding upon Su Yi.

Clang!!!

Su Yi swung his sword and blocked, only to be sent flying, sword and all.

But before he could steady himself, he twisted suddenly at the waist, shot through the sky, and fled into the distance.

He’d already broken free; he wasn’t stupid enough to keep fighting.

“You’re a nice little fish on the chopping block. How could I possibly let you escape?” the Angler spoke with undisguised excitement and crushed a silver talisman.

Boom!

Countless threads of glowing light outlined an all-encompassing fishing net. In the blink of an eye, its strands bored through the firmament and severed Su Yi’s escape route on all sides.

Su Yi was like a fish already in the net. Soon, he’d be completely and utterly trapped!

This silver talisman was called the Tusita Heaven Karma Talisman, and it was a killer weapon the Angler had prepared specifically to capture Su Yi alive.

He was subject to the natural order of the Immortal Dao and thus unable to display its full power. Even so, with this talisman in hand, he could have captured a Mid-Rank God alive with ease!

“Capture!” The Angler bellowed, and the Tusita Heaven Karma Talisman constricted, as if lifted out of the “water” by an enormous, invisible hand.

At that moment, a brick-like treasure appeared in Su Yi’s hand, and he swung it with all his might.

Boom!

Stingingly bright red Dao Light burst forth, blasting a hole in the Tusita Heaven Karma Talisman’s net.

The Angler fell into a daze. A moment later, his eyes lit up. He wasn’t startled. On the contrary, he was delighted. “The Book of Karma!”

He was so happy that his voice quavered with excitement.

But just as Su YI was about to turn and leave, a grand, Buddhist chant rang out. “A Prison of Earth!”

Every word boomed throughout the firmament. Countless glittering golden Buddhist lotuses surged into being, locking down the heavens and surrounding Su Yi on all sides.

Su Yi abruptly looked up. He wasn’t sure when, but a gaunt monk had appeared out of nowhere atop a serpentine dragon. He held a bronze lamp, and when his eyes opened and closed, countless Sanskrit letters surged into being.

His entire body rippled with tides of the Buddhist Light of the Grand Dao.

The Dipankara Buddha of the Past!

Su Yi’s heart sank. The Angler was already an incomparably thorny opponent, but now, a Master God of the Western Paradise Spirit Mountain had shown up too. This made his situation far more perilous.

In Su Yi’s shoes, just about anyone else would have broken down already!

But Su Yi didn’t. His gaze was increasingly distant and terrifyingly calm. Without the slightest hesitation, he took the Sword of Proximity in one hand and the Book of Karma in the other, then blasted the way ahead.

One after another, the golden lotuses burst.

Off in the distance, the Dipankara Buddha chanted and pressed down in the air. “A Buddhist Land in the Palm of My Hand!”

Boom!

An enormous hand appeared out of nowhere, and a grand, enormous paradise appeared in its palm. Heavenly dragons coiled within it, bodhisattvas chanted sutras, and arhats maintained the precepts.

Sanskrit chanting resounded throughout heaven and earth, and searing Buddhist light illuminated all of creation.

For a moment, the sense of an impending lethal threat was so intense that Su Yi almost couldn’t breathe.

Practically simultaneously, the Angler roared in fury. “Want to snatch my prey out of my hand? You’re dreaming!”

He leaped forward, his hands pounding the air as if he were beating a drum.

Boom!!

A coursing river descended from the heavens, as if breaking through a dam. It instantly blocked the “Buddhist land” enveloping Su Yi.

When the two calamitous and taboo divine abilities collided, heaven and earth collapsed, and all of creation was overturned.

Su Yi was at the center of it all, and the flood of destructive power sent him flying and made his wounds even worse.

“Providence, you cannot capture him alone. You’d best let this humble monk assist you,” said the Dipankara Buddha with the countenance of a Buddhist statue. As he spoke, his hands formed seals, and his voice boomed like spring thunder. “A Lotus Blossoms of the Dharma!”

An enormous golden lotus of the Grand Dao appeared between heaven and earth, its stalk extending into the sky and its roots reaching into the ground. When it bloomed, it scattered an endless rain of light!

“Hmph! You think I don’t know what you’re after? You just want to seize the Book of Karma and the mysteries of reincarnation for yourself!” said the Angler. He was obviously frantic.

He leaped into the fray, and a black windstorm whooshed from his palm, descending ruthlessly upon the golden lotus of the Grand Dao.

Shockingly, the two Master Gods’ avatars of will were fighting each other!

When Su Yi saw this, he turned and fled.

“Let’s capture the heretic, then figure out how to divide the spoils. How about it?” said the Dipankara Buddha.

“Very well!” The Angler was furious and unwilling, but he had no choice but to agree. He was a Master God who’d lived for countless years. He naturally understood that they had to capture Su Yi before worrying about anything else! The two of them immediately stopped fighting and gave chase. Each was faster than the one before; both wanted to be the first to capture Su Yi.

Su Yi felt stifled. This was the most wretched he’d been since becoming an immortal!

He’d never been pushed into such a wretched, unseemly position. Despite his ironclad heart, he couldn’t suppress the blazing flames of wrath and murderous intent igniting in his heart.

I’ll be sure to settle this score another day! Su Yi thought to himself. Out loud, he said, “Sixth Brother Book, I’m afraid I’ll have to wrong you just this once.”

His eyes flashed as he made up his mind. Then, he suddenly tossed the Book of Karma into the distance with all his might.

The Book of Karma was instantly frantic with anger. “You’re using me as bait to lure the tigers away from the mountain? You sure are ruthless, kid!”

But that was the end of complaints. It could see Su Yi’s predicament, and it knew that Su Yi’s life hung in the balance. He might meet his end at any moment!

Thus, when Su Yi flung it, it erupted with the bright red power of karma and shot into the distance.

“Hm?” Practically simultaneously, the Dipankara Buddha and the Angler noticed what was happening. They immediately realized Su Yi’s intentions.

“Very well. I’ll leave the heretic to you for now, Daoist Brother!” The Dipankara Buddha turned to chase the Book of Karma.

Long, long ago, he sent his avatar of will into the Immortal Realm and attacked the Dragon Palace of the Eastern Seas, all for the sake of seizing the Book of Karma.

Alas, he’d failed in the end.

Of late, he arranged for the Temple Guardian Arhat, Jia Yun, to descend into the Immortal Realm in part to acquire the Book of Karma.

But Jia Yun failed too.

How could the Dipankara Buddha remain unmoved when he saw Su Yi fling the book away of his own accord? Even though he knew Su Yi was deliberately trying to “lure the tigers away from the mountain,” the Dipankara Buddha couldn’t let this opportunity slip through his fingers!

“You’re dreaming!”

The moment the Dipankara Buddha took action, the Angler bellowed in fury and chased the book too.

The Dipankara Buddha’s Dao was connected to karma, but so was the Angler’s! It was no exaggeration to say that whichever one of them acquired this secret treasure would be able to take another step forward in their pursuit of the Divine Dao!

“Daoist Brother, that heretic possesses the mysteries of reincarnation and numerous other unknown secrets. Why fight over the Book of Karma with me?” The Dipankara Buddha frowned in obvious displeasure.

The Angler gnashed his teeth in hatred. “That heretic is at the end of his rope. Even if he flees, we can capture him later. But if the Book of Karma falls into your hands, you bald donkey, I’ll lose it for good!”

He really was beside himself with fury.

He’d chased Su Yi all this way, paying a considerable price. He’d used up practically every means at his disposal, but just when he was about to close the net, the Dipankara Buddha swooped in. How could the Angler not be furious?

The Dipankara Buddha furrowed his brow in anger and said coldly, “Daoist Brother, your avatar of will is all but depleted. Do you really think you have any hope of defeating me if we fight?”

Boom!

Buddhist light surged around him, startling the heavens and shaking the earth. His murderous intent locked onto the Angler.

The Angler’s pupils constricted, and he instantly cleared his head, only to feel even more stifled than before. I expended all that power trying to capture that heretic, didn’t I? Now, all that effort has become a weakness for Dipankara to exploit!!
