The familiar sound of gunshots reverberated throughout the entire battlefield the moment Jin gave the order and it gave confidence to the Rifle Mages who had been waiting for this opportunity. However, to the armies who had finally broken the isolation barrier, they were confused about what to expect even as they heard these unusual sounds from Ress' side.
Mainly because the territory of the Ress had changed drastically from what the topography had discerned a few months ago. What should be a piece of grass plains which the armies were prepared to die and fight for this land area had been presented with a lush landscape of a forest which they had no idea what sort of plant that was or where it came from.
After all, Bamboo and Pandas were a foreign concept to the world of Atopia. Even Ress Citizens took some time to understand that the Pandarians were not just a sort of bear with different patches of colours. (Well, they were not wrong to catergorise them as bears…)
But the change in landscape, the lack of land forces, and the sudden sounds of small and yet thunderous shots made them believe that Ress was shooting at them with cannons from afar. And because of that kind of misconception, the armies were taken aback when they were given the very same kind of treatment they had dispensed to the isolation barrier.
In actuality, the isolation barrier did not crack from those attacks and the isolation barrier was still working, able to take such punishments for at least a week or so. However, Jin purposely did this to give the invading armies the confidence that they were able to win.
So, he had purposely weakened a portion of the isolation barrier based on the arc radius of the formation that the armies had surrounded Ress.
So, with the specific thinning of the isolation barrier, it was able to break under the pressure of those explosions and Jin was able to come out and surprise them with the monstrous Rifle Mages who were dying to show these armies who was the actual boss of the battlefield.
The bullets did not only explode once as this wave of bullets had been coated with a new magical formula where it was able to cause a chain reaction of explosions to ensure that the enemy who had been injured by it would have a delayed 'fuse' detonation. Thus, it was similar to being tagged after the soldiers had been affected by the explosions and did not die from it.
Granted, the casting time was rather long because of the new magic formulae that the Grand Sage of Ress had conjured along with his disciples now that they were exploring the frontiers of battle magic in order to fight against Rank EX Demons. Yet, to see it working had proved that the Grand Sage's experiment in changing the magical formulae and squeezing it on the bullet had been rather effective.
While the soldiers who attempted to invade Ress had been treated as experimental subjects, the generals had tried to keep his soldiers back to formation only to not know that these Rifle Mages were capable of sending another wave of explosions easily.Their reorganising of the lines and the shouting of orders had made it very clear to the Rifle Mages who they needed to kill first instead of the rank and file.
Hence, all of them readjusted their aims and fired away without any care.
In fact, this preemptive retaliation was done by the veteran Rifle Mages but it was to inculcate the new recruits and baptise them to get used to killing. Of course, there had been illusive simulations done to prepare them for the real thing, this was officially their first time doing so.
Many were initially averse to killing fellow humans as their main objective was to defeat the demons but the Star Foxes had done a good job in changing the psyche of the recruits to make their mind battle hardened even before the real thing happened.
This was merely the trigger to allow Jin to put the seal of approval on them so they could officially pass out as Rifle Mages. This also included the Pandarian Rifle Mages who had been inducted into the ranks as well since to the Veteran Rifle Mages who had been through hell fighting against Dune Shell Orcs, this was practically a one day shooting range course for them.
Hence, they focused on educating the recruits if they had messed up despite the numerous trainings those new Rifle Mages had been involved in. Sometimes, it was just the need for that 'first blood' experience that was all that counts for them to be confident enough to execute the orders despite the tough training they were been receiving.
Unfortunately, the same thinking goes for the armies who had invaded Ress and they had no idea that their firepower would change the battlefield this drastically. With their leading officers and generals being blasted to smithereens, the new recruits who had joined this in hopes of gaining glory find that they were here to put the next feet into their own graves.
The only army that managed to keep intact and decided to be the one throwing orders to rally in this chaotic havoc of bombardment was actually the Mong Empire. Their soldiers were injured severely from the first attack but the subsequent explosions did not affect them too much because of their 'high' constitution and they started to rush into the unknown forest.
Most of their officers were also able to withstand the explosions by putting up magical shields of a certain calibre but when the veteran Rifle Mages noticed it, they knew something was different with Mong Empire.
"They…fused with demons." One of the Rifle Mage Leaders reported in the battle network channel and the rest of the leaders concurred the same thing as well. All of them who had fought against the demons and Dune Shell Orcs could feel the very same aura those soldiers were emitting especially from their magic spells.
"It's fine. It's nothing we can't handle," Captain Hei spoke out through the channel as he readied his troops within this bamboo forest waiting for Mong Kingdom Troops to enter.
