The screams of men howled through the battlefield as they suffered burn injuries, loss of limbs, and the death of their comrades. And yet there was not a single retaliation done to the defenders as their higher ups were trying to keep things in formation.
And yet every time the remaining officers in the field attempted to do just that, they would only be blasted from the skies once more. The remaining mages that the armies had were desperately trying to keep themselves alive first and then their comrades. It was only the selfless few who attempted to save as many people as they could.
Unfortunately, the explosion magic that the flying Ress Mages were casting was of a different level than most veteran mages had encountered. They all had years of experience under their belt and they understood if a mage or two cast such high power spells while utilising their ability to fly as well.
However, not just one or two but a battalion of mages flying with ease and shooting down their explosive magic consecutively without stopping had shown that the mages were of a different level. It felt as if they were merely shooting down projectiles that contained the explosive spells but those mages who were still alive could see this could not be a copied magic.
The strength of the explosions was condensed with mana and it would not be easy to replicate nor copy such spells into a scroll unless they had a very good transcription mage who had the mana capability to create multiple scrolls for use. This could only mean that the Mages on Ress's side of the battlefield were extremely well trained and each of them was a high level mage.
This brought disbelief to a few of the Veteran Mages who had dismissed the Mage Guild's order to return to Ress before the said kingdom closed down with the isolation barrier up. However, this was the truth. There was no denying that the defending mages were capable and the veteran mages who did not return felt that they had taken the short end of the straw staying in the respective kingdoms.
Yet, this was not the end for the invading army. The Mong Empire was somehow able to come out of this inescapable situation with much ease. Their soldiers withstand the attacks to a certain degree and they were charging into Ress territory without care. Of course, not all of Mong's troops were unscathed.
Those who were in the centre of those explosions definitely died but those who were injured continued to charge in without a care of their lives.
It was as if they were incapable of pain and they continued to move for the kill.
Sadly, the mages in the skies were not the only mages that Ress had.Out of the blue, a loud thunderous roar through the bamboo forest, and at that point, there was an impact on the Mong Empire soldiers. Smoke and dust subsequently followed with the hit on the Mong Empire soldiers and those who still pinned their hopes on the Mong Empire could see that they were wrong to do so.
More of these thunderous roars echoes through the bamboo forest and more of Mong Empire soldiers were killed in a flash. This was accompanied by a sound of continuously loud clutter with red traces of projectiles flying through the air, eliminating the first wave of Mong Empire soldiers in an instant.
Still, this did not stop the Mong Empire from moving furiously into the Bamboo Forest. They believed that if they could charge in, they would be able to take cover from the mages from above and they could kill the Mages who were doing this.
"Silly folks. They think that we are Mages." One of the tank operators said as he locked onto his target and fired a grapeshot at them now that they were at a closer distance. Bodies broke down like how completed puzzles dropped on the floor and broke into pieces. Those who were clear enough had to contend with a few seasoned Rifle Mages who were at the frontlines with the tanks.
Their objective was not to annihilate soldiers but to kill the momentum of the incoming charge, breaking their morale once more under this heavy fire which should technically speaking break their willpower. They did so not with explosive spells like the Mages who were flying above the Bamboo Forest but with wind magic.
With a shot from their rifle and to the ground, a violent gust of wind blew the Mong Empire Soldiers back and knocked them down to the ground. This made them easy targets for the machine gunners on the Sherman Tanks to finish them off. And as they clean up the targets, the tanks continued their barrage against the targets from afar.
This strategy involved in delaying their advance so that they could not come any closer. And lastly to put the final nail into coffin of death for the invading armies. Artilleries had been employed now that they had a good line of sight from the reports from the flying Rifle Mages.
Their precise coordinates of the remaining lines after the surprise attack gave the artillery teams enough time to readjust and coordinate their fire so that the flying mages would not be in the line of fire while continuing to provide support. R̃åNŏBĘṢ
Shells after shells flew out of the artillery barrel as the defenders did not give them any chance to escape. This was because the artillery was not meant for the masses or the frontlines. Instead it was used to block the rear with artillery fire so that there was no chance for the armies to escape.
Jin had effectively created an extreme kill zone that no one would be able to tell the tale. And that was extremely true since the Star Foxes were also deployed in all these chaos to move to the rear of the armies just to kill the soldiers who had miraculously come out of the 'defensive' bombardment line that the artilleries had established.
